civilians who are themselves fleeing refugees. What occurring in Syria is an absolute devastating tragedy of flight, dispossession, seizure of assets and expelling of innocents, etc etc etc. But at NO POINT is the answer "we're gonna kill you're families". This is batshit.

The people of Afrin who left their homes have every reason to be furious. But their fury should be with the Turkish gov or perhaps TSO. Not other war refugees who just had their homes bombed to shreds by the regime and are also just trying to survive. This is so utterly

disgusting to see what's happening and say "we're gonna murder these refugees to get revenge for our refugees".

Agree. What the Turks are doing is population displacement through methods that minimise risks of gaining international attention.
-
Force the family networks that supported the YPG out. Then shift in Arab refugees who have no choice to dilute the demographic strength of the remaining Kurdish population
-
Not sure this is limited or specifially aimed soley at family networks that supported YPG. Take the article by
@mollycrabapple for example. (comes w/o saying that going after resettled families is wrong) -
We're talking about extended kinship networks. Just two or three people close to the YPG could impel two or three dozen relatives to feel unsafe and leave even if many don't personally like the YPG
-
Going by this metric, this would probably include most of the population though, no? It's just that by reading reports like the one I mentioned I didn't have the impression that the displacement was that targeted but a lot also happend because of rumours fostered by videos /1
-
and harassment by turkish backed rebels. Turkey didn't seem too eager to convince people that the perception of displacement along ethnic lines would be wrong. So a lot also fled in advance (and aren't allowed to come back yet) /2
-
I think we need to call time on calling these groups rebels. Step by step in North Aleppo, Afrin and increasingly Idlib they're coming under clear authority of the TSK, Jandarma and MIT. Just Turkish-backed militias now.
-
But if you look at the rationale given it is "YPG sympathisers". The TSK's whole schtick is to pretend this isn't ethnic even though it clearly is

Funny how people reflect what they have been doing in Syria to Turkey when their toy is taken from them Turkey doesnt make any demographic altering but YPG terrorists did with huge help of West & YPG isnt a Kurdish organization, they are manufactured terrorists. We support Kurds!
