The story follows Riko, a girl who lives in an orphanage and is training to be a Cave Raider, and a robot that she met in the Abyss named Reg, whose body is in the shape of a young boy and who seems to have lost his memories. “Made in Abyss” is an adventure story written by Akihito Tsukushi about how Riko and Reg attempt to take on the “Abyss”, a hole on earth that humanity has yet to fully explore. A charming point of “Made in Abyss” is the contrast between its adorable drawings, almost like they belong in a picture book, and the plot that is not for the faint of heart. Fascinated by that contrast and the thorough world-building, this work has managed to gain many dedicated fans.
