For the record: seculars who complain about ’s macho-ways are swimming in a sea of hypocrisy. What really infuriates them is that Erdogan is not *their* macho-man (and that they failed to produce a macho-man/woman of their own).

You haven’t met me yet in person, Nick. You can call me biased, but let’s say I’m not very... sentimental.

I never claim objectivity or moral high ground. I challenge people who do, either for fortune/fame or sheer ideological biases w/o kid gloves. They may not *like* me, but let’s say I have no *feelings* for them. Partially reason why people who meet me offline think I’m “nicer.”

Let me tell you, Nick: I’m a middle-class “West Levent” kid, and you really don’t want to know where I grew up. That is, unless you want to have an overly-priced cappuccino at . Well, it wasn’t this chick back then.

That’s what separates us, Nick. I don’t think of good or bad. Ontologically speaking, there are just things, people, and utterly subjective & manipulating/manipulated discourses about them. And you’re right, I threw “ontological” just to appear sophisticated. OK, maybe not.

“Giybet” invites comment. Gül versus Erdogan: *only 1* comparison matters. Erdogan has the macho-charm that many Turks (including seculars) love to love & he’s a big risk taker. Gül not only has no such charm, but probably thinks thrice before playing $1 lotto (& decides not to).

Turkiye’de solculara ve kendini solcu sanan sekulerlere anlatamayacaginiz: AKP onceki hukumetlere kiyasla “sosyal devlet” kurma yolunda daha fazla yol aldi. Ironi: ilham sosyalist Marks’tan degil muhafazakar Bismark’tan geliyor. (Ipucu: populizm)

That’s the point. openly said “democracy is a train, we’ll get out when we reach our destination,” and Turkey’s uber-smart liberals & soft-core lefties chose to ignore the signs, supporting him like there’s no tomorrow. We are now living in that tomorrow, .
