    For the record: seculars who complain about ’s macho-ways are swimming in a sea of hypocrisy. What really infuriates them is that Erdogan is not *their* macho-man (and that they failed to produce a macho-man/woman of their own).

    “Giybet” invites comment. Gül versus Erdogan: *only 1* comparison matters. Erdogan has the macho-charm that many Turks (including seculars) love to love & he’s a big risk taker. Gül not only has no such charm, but probably thinks thrice before playing $1 lotto…

    C'mon, even professors aren't above personal feelings. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that you can't follow Turkey without developing strong personal feelings. It's basically an abusive relationship.

    I never claim objectivity or moral high ground. I challenge people who do, either for fortune/fame or sheer ideological biases w/o kid gloves. They may not *like* me, but let’s say I have no *feelings* for them. Partially reason why people who meet me offline think I’m “nicer.”

    Sure, but your perspective is just as subjective and biased as anyone else's. Any good journalist or academic tries to understand as many different perspectives as possible, without concluding that some are "wrong" or "right."

    That’s what separates us, Nick. I don’t think of good or bad. Ontologically speaking, there are just things, people, and utterly subjective & manipulating/manipulated discourses about them. And you’re right, I threw “ontological” just to appear sophisticated. OK, maybe not.

    I thought it started as a discussion about being "nice" after someone brought up a certain someone's (let's call him BK) Twitter persona? So the worst of Turkish Twitter somehow led to the best (this conversation).
