    Because of course eliminating some dozen hardcore AQ members and a few hundreds hardline jihadis that just failed at even capturing a single village from the regime, trumps stopping the death of thousands of civilians and further empowering a genocidal regime.

    So, instead of working towards strengthening the civilian bodies and non-HTS rebels which will make any AQ and HTS influence minimal (it already is at an all time low), let's op for accepting an offensive that will kill thousands and displace hundreds of thousand more.

    If the USA is concerned with (including and fellow travelers) in NW (Greater ) and is not prepared to go after these groups, is it better for and his partners ( and to do it)? 🤔 Is it better …

    If this was written 6 months ago, it’d make some sense, but written today, it stands out for being totally lacking of crucial nuance that brings serious strategic implications. It’s amazing just how facile U.S.-based work on NW has become - details don’t matter anymore.

    Nearly every Islamic movement, sect, group in history has used hadith to legitimise their beliefs. Nothing at all unique, or even interesting, about that. But when you see everything through security lens you don't know that.

    With the resumption of fighting between HTS and JTS, both sides are blaming each other for breaking the ceasefire. I won't bother sharing their statements, instead I'll only share what the head negotiator of the joint mediation committee said, putting the blame solely on HTS.

    Though an avowed Jihadi, Abu Mus'ab was never formally part of al-Qa'ida, let alone a member of its leadership. Even with his historical relationship with AQ leaders, he's known for criticising and disagreeing with them.

    Although this was misreported, Assad repeatedly threatened to release a key member of al-Qaeda’s central leadership, Abu Musab al-Suri; to damage the West. Again, what would Assad’s western lackeys say to this when claiming he’s fighting jihadists today? …
