Only real alternative is chrome, if you don't mind sucking googles cock. Or the OS specific ones if you're one of those people. I'd stick with FF if you've made it this far. Yeah, having a secure, fast and sufficiently adaptable modern browser that ALSO lets you do whatever you want with pluggins might not technically be impossible, but it is unfeasible. They held on far longer than they should have, and made some really ridiculous concessions in the process. Any browser based on old FF is already in pretty bad shape all things considered, and it's going to get a lot worse very quickly. It kinda comes down to what you're willing to put up with to keep the XUL library, especially with most developers abandoning ship.

There's a lot they'll be able to do when enough APIs get implemented, and supposedly some functionality that wasn't part of the old extension system.

Standard functionality: doesn't lack any major features like javascript support etc.

Security: i shouldn't get a virus or hacked within 10 minutes of web browsing
Freedom: my personal data won't be collected by Google or whoever. this implies the web browser is free and open source.
Stability: doesn't crash every 5 minutes
Not a huge resource-hog: i can keep my web browser open for a few days or weeks and my system stills runs smoothly

if you just wanna sit down and write some code you can start with python. Just keep in the back of your mind that it's a shitlang, and you should move on if you end up enjoying coding. C# - is good starting point.
Avoid falling at JavaScript, Python, Ruby, PHP memes.
You can also pick C\C++ but C# is much easier once you get general idea.
After you master at least one language you can pick any other quick and easy.

If it helps there is how i started.
Python - every single person says its super easy and you can do anything with it, in reality, for absolute beginner its was really hard.
After i decided to get into webdev (because its almost only thing you can do to find work) but you have to be super good to do only backend, so i decided to learn JavaScript for frontend.
Then i realized you can do backend and frontend with only JS, so i wasted another 4-5 months learning JS, got pretty good but still felt like i know nothing.
Quit this gay shit.
Finally decide i don't want short way into programming and want to gitgud.
Started with c++, and after first few days i realized how much of the retard i was, and how bad JS and python is for beginners.
Was learning c++ but then parents wanted to kick my ass of home so i had to get work, find some entry level job, but i had to learn SQL and C#, learn basics in one week and here i am, working already for one year, and i can say from my point C# is good language for beginners, it will teach you all you need to know.

i've been googling and apparently i can use a program called ESETPoweliksCleaner, but i can't run it
in fact i can't even google ESET on any browser, it closes it.
the virus completely blocked the word ESET, which leads me to believe it's the only antivirus that can remove it

i wrote ESET in a text file and saved it, then i couldn't even open it

how THE FUCK do i fix this? HELP

do power line ethernet adapters fuck with internet speed tests somehow? Using the google one gives me 10mbps so I thought I was fucked. Then using the speedtest one gave me around 15-20, and using my ISP's one gave me around 30mbps.

The weird thing is, actually downloading something from steam I get 70mbps or what steam says is 7MB/s. Downloading something from google drive also reports that amount. I don't understand why it would be so different?

Using my wifi the online speedtests report the speed I would get when actually downloading stuff accurately.

I work for a software company as a software developer. I just completed a project where I did something somewhat unorthodox but very useful and interesting. Basically I used two not very well known open source technologies to achieve a particular business purpose that has widespread applications.

I could definitely post about a different example, let's say a dashboard that shows your RAM usage over time or something, while still demonstrating the technologies that make this interesting. However, I'd prefer to use the actual example of what I did as it's the most interesting to me and it's also the easiest to write about as I just did it.

I know this is going to vary from company to company and depending on what you signed, but in general, would either of these be allowed (if there even is a general case here) without getting in trouble with my company if they found it? If not, is there a way I can blog about the interesting technological challenges I face without getting in trouble/revealing too much, or am I doomed to just not talk about it until I have left the company?

I just wonder how other developers do it. Lots of them have personal blogs where they'll post tutorials on how to do things (which I assume they work with at their jobs). I guess I'm going to have to just come up with a more general example for the blog. Depends on whether your card supports analog over DVI. Otherwise you would have to buy a much more expensive and less reliable active adapter.

You can use your mobo's VGA port if integrated graphics is enabled, but you won't have the benefit of your GPUs power on it.

Programming is very useful, and definitely worth learning, although you may be approaching it from the wrong way.
I would suggest writing stuff for your computer first, before using an arduino. While arduinos are easy to program, they're more tedious to work with than a program on your computer.
If the guides don't explain it, they're shit, or you're lacking context. I can't really help you with how to go about learning (someone else who knows better could), but it isn't too hard if you get the right start.

I'm pretty sure Pascal does not have any analog output capability at all anymore, there's no hardware for it on the card. An active adapter to VGA is required, whether it's from DP, HDMI or DVI shouldn't matter.

You're gunna need to scrub it to get rid of it.
Go in and turn on encryption let it encrypt the entire internal and sd card
Then you will need to use another tool to write random data to the card and internal till its full then erase it to zeros
THEN you should be good

Well elaborate on this if you could. I've heard of this method for a while but I never really cared to look into it since I'm more comfortable doing everything in house. A seedbox is a server located in a datacenter. You setup a torrent client and then send it magnet links or torrent files remotely.
When the files are done you ftp in to the server and download your content.
Thats it.
They arent that expensive, though it depends on how much space you're going to activly use.
If you have 1000 BD 4k rips, you're going to pay more then if you just seed to 1:1 on 20 torrents at a time and then delete

so out of the blue the fans on my laptop went full blast (you can select 100% and auto, they went from auto to 100% on their own) and the caps/scroll/num indicators started blinking, then after about 30 seconds the computer shut down. it didnt do anything otherwise, until it shut down. upon reboot it showed the safemode options, so it was a hard shut down.

Well, the MINIMUM you could get away with at home is a pi + a powered USB hub with the drives connected to it. You could also try something similar with a router running a custom firmware that allows for a torrent client. But it sounds like you're going to be running enough torrents to strain the hell out of both those solutions. I'd just find a PC with low specs and power consumption, put a lightweight distro on it and call it a day. There is shit like intel NUCs if you want to spend more for something more compact/efficient.

I have a live temp readout on my task bar and it was mid 50s, plus I've maxed this thing out 95c+ and it's never kicked on both fans and blinked before, it just brings up the cpu fan and throttled itself. (Should have mentioned if you turn on 100% it kicks on the cpu and gpu fan, otherwise it controls them individually. Just signed up with a small ISP in my area, and when the people who installed it were chatting to me before they left, they stressed that speedtests were problematic and that while we could perform them occasionally, if they noticed we were doing it way too much they'd slow our internet down, then we could contact them and they'd restore it to normal if we say 'we understand, we won't do it as much', more or less. But, they also said "we get being a gamer and all, it's fine for you to play, download updates, do downloads, stream, etc. as always - just don't speedtest, as it slows the internet down for others who are streaming".
This raised a few red flags. First off, sounds like they're actually monitoring the very sites we visit, if they can detect a speedtest. Secondly, it simply smells like absolute bullshit.
That, and if they ARE telling the truth, should I be scared that downloading torrents (with enough seeders that it reaches max-bandwidth) should be an issue? It sounds as if a speedtest is just the equivalent of running a max-speed download for a few seconds, yet I was hoping to do max-speed downloads via torrents, for hours on end. I don't see how this isn't worse than a speedtest, which uses it for a few seconds.

I get that I'm tech illiterate, and I get that what they said sounds like a huge lie to stop us from realizing that our speed isn't what they promised. I would believe the latter, but all my steam downloads and torrents are successfully hitting our promised download speed without a hitch, so I can't see what they would be trying to hide from us.
Something definitely isn't adding up. Did they somehow not comprehend the congestion that would be caused if I download an 80gb game at 'full speed'? Or are speedtests actually the devil, somehow? I don't fucking get this at all, what their motivation was.

I've never encountered this issue with mpv. It simply won't open a series.

The files open fine in MPC-HC. Any idea why it can't find audio/video streams? Is this something I can edit in MKVTool?

Any program that automatically converts all .flac files in a folder to .mp3?
Audacity and goldwave work, but dragging every single file manually and saving it as .mp3 is tedious if you have 500+ .flac files like I do.

I think... Stallman is very attached to some really outdated ideas that just don't apply in the current tech world anymore. Like some of what he says makes sense and I guess it would be good if things worked that way, but they don't and they're never going to. Best SBC for a seeding machine + NAS?

Need to be seeding 1500-2000 torrents, mostly inactive ones.
But the SBC should be capable of:
Saturating the 100/100 internetconnection simulaniously AND be able to deliver at least 10MB/s, better 30MB/s within network (NAS) at the same time.
No heavy I/O besides catching on freeleeches and listening to music/watching movies by one machine.
Requirements would be: Ethernet capable of 300Mbit/s net, 2GB RAM minimum to be able to cache torrent files to keep I/O of the HDD to a minimum.
Ideally: USB3 or Sata connector.

Thinking about Orange/Banana Pi, or even Odroid/Udoo/Up, with the latter options being quite (too) expensive.

I've got a really old TV that supports playing mp4/mkv movies through USB sticks. But lately I have problem viewing them. I'm using Handbrake to burn the subtitles onto the video since it doesn't support ASS subs. I use the ultrafast preset to encode them quickly and from my understanding they should be the easiest to decode on the hardware. Am I wrong? They played without problems some time ago and now it stutters.

-12V is unregulated and it isn't used. It's fine.
5V VCCH isn't used when the computer is on.

If the computer popped off it's probably the PSU. Try undervolting the processor. Phenom II X4's were normally 1.35V so I don't really know why yours is nearly 1.5V. Maybe because the 960T is an X6 with 2 disabled cores. Try undervolting.

I have a 2012 macbook pro (ivy bridge processor) that is still on El Capitan. Newer versions are supported on my machine but that's not saying much. Searching online, all I can find are forum threads where some people say their machines got more sluggish (claiming that newer OS versions are optimised for Haswell or some other microarchitecture), some say they ran smoother, while others still say they ran just the same after updating the OS.

Should I expect my machine to run slower, faster, or more or less the same if I upgraded, and why?

Windows has suddenly decided it's not genuine. Got my license from a licensed MS rep, worked for over a year - suddenly it's fucked. Tried reentering my key, no dice: Digging trough event logs I found the error is 0xC004F014 - "Microsoft's Key Management Service could not be accessed." When I try to click the "Activate" button it tries to connect to a windows page - opening in firefox brings up an error about enabling cookies (which are enabled) and opening in IE brings up a blank page.
