Creating Groups/Inviting Members

Creating groups toggle
You can create groups to chat about the same topic with multiple friends. Unlike multi-person chats, you can name groups and also use Notes and Albums. Members of a group can also add one another as friends and chat individually. Please follow the steps below to create a group.

1. Tap the friends icon.
2. Tap the add friends icon > Create a Group.
3. Enter the group name and select the members you wish to add, then tap Invite.
4. Tap Save.
5. An invitation will be sent to the group members you selected. If the member selects Join, they will become a member. If the member has not selected Join, they will appear as Pending Members.

Inviting new friends to a group toggle
1. Tap to open the group chat you want to invite new friends to.
2. Tap the V icon on the top right of the chat room.
3. Tap Invite.

You can also invite members from the Invite Friends button on the bottom of the group members' list.

You can invite up to 199 friends per group, excluding yourself.

Cancelling a group invitation toggle
1. Tap the group from the friends list.
2. Tap the member from the pop-up.
3. Swipe the member’s name to the left, then tap Delete.

Accidentally declining a group invitation toggle
If you want to be invited to the group again, please tell a member to cancel your invitation and then invite you again.

Display when declining a group invitation toggle
Even if you decline a group invitation, you will still be displayed as a pending member in the group. To have yourself removed from the group completely, the friend who invited you will need to cancel your invitation.

Viewing posts added to a group before joining toggle
Newly added group members will be able to see all posts and albums added to the group before they joined, but not previous chat messages.

Group Notes/Albums

Viewing group notes and albums toggle
You can view group notes and albums by following any of the below methods.

- Tap the group you want to view the notes or albums for on your friends list, then tap Notes or Albums on the pop-up.
- Tap the V icon on the top right of the chat room > Notes or Albums.
- Swipe the group chat room to the left once or twice.
- Tap the Timeline icon > My Groups, then the icon of the group you want to view the posts or notes for.

Creating group notes toggle
You can follow either of the below methods to create a group note.

- Open the group from the friends list, tap Notes on the pop-up > New Note or pencil icon.
- Tap Write on the top of the Timeline, then tap My LINE Friends and select the group.

After creating a note, only the text can be edited. If you wish to edit a note with other contents besides text, you will need to delete the note then post an edited version.

If you are posting images, please use albums as they are optimized for the posting and viewing of images.

Adding photos to an album toggle
1. Tap the group from the friends list.
2. Tap Albums on the pop-up.
3. Tap the album you want to post photos to.
4. Tap the + button on the bottom right of the screen.

Visibility of group posts on timeline to LINE friends toggle
Group posts on your Timeline are only visible to members of the group. Non-members will not be able to see them.

Deleting a group note toggle
You can delete notes you created yourself by following the steps below.

1. Tap the group from the friends list.
2. Tap Notes on the pop-up.
3. Tap the note you want to delete.
4. Tap the three dots at the top right, then Delete.

4. Tap the three dots on the top right, then Delete Album.

1. Tap the group from the friends list.
2. Tap Albums on the pop-up.
3. Tap the photos you want to save from the album.
4. Tap the Save button on the bottom right.

Deleting a group post created using a previous account toggle
You cannot delete posts, Likes, or comments made using an old account. To delete a comment posted using a previous account, you will need to ask the author of the post it is attached to help you. To delete a Like made using a previous account, the post it is attached to needs to be deleted.

Deleting photos from a group album toggle
Important Notes
- Deleted photos cannot be restored.
- If you delete something, a notification will be sent to the group chat notifying other members that you did so.

To delete photos from a group album
1. Tap the group from the friends list.
2. Tap Albums on the pop-up.
3. Tap the photo you want to delete from the album it was saved in.
4. Tap and hold the photo you want to delete.
5. Tap Delete Photo.

Renaming an album toggle
1. Tap the friends icon.
2. Tap the name of the friend or group.
3. If the album is with an individual friend, tap Chat > V icon on the top right > Albums. 
If the album is with a group, tap Albums.
4. Tap the album you want to rename.
5. Tap the three dots on the top right.
6. Tap Rename Album.
7. Enter a new name and tap Save.

Album names must be between 1 and 20 characters. The same name cannot be used for multiple albums.

Leaving a Group

Leaving a group toggle

Your posts, albums, and photos will not be deleted even if you leave a group. If there is any data you wish to delete, please do so before leaving the group.

 

When a group member deletes their account or leaves the group, a message saying “(friend name) left the group.” will appear.

 

To leave a group

1. From your friends list, swipe left on the group you want to leave.

2. Tap Leave.

 

Once all members of a group leave, all data posted will be deleted. In this case, the data cannot be restored.

Deleting posts by previous group members toggle
You cannot delete data posted by members who have left the group.

Deleting a group or group members toggle
A group is automatically deleted when all members leave. If there are multiple members in the group, you will need to remove all of them by following the steps below before the group can be deleted.

1. Tap the friends icon.
2. Tap the group you want to delete.
3. Tap the members icon on the pop-up.
4. Swipe left on the names of the members.
5. Tap Delete.

Once you are the only member left, tap Leave to leave the group and delete it.
