Githubに先に登録されていたユーザー名を譲ってもらった話

自分が登録しようとしたユーザー名を持っているアカウントを見てみると、登録（2014年）以降まったく使われていませんでした（なぜ登録したのか…）

いろいろ調べてみると、GitHubにはName Squatting Policyというものがありました。

このポリシーは、アカウント取得は基本早いものがちだが、非アクティブなアカウントについてはスタッフがアカウントを削除または他のユーザーに譲るということを示しています。

そこで自分が使いたいユーザ名を譲ってもらえないかとGitHubにコンタクトをとってみました。

こんな感じでメッセージを送ってみました。

Hi,

I'm enquiring about whether username uichi can be released? The user who has registered that username doesn't look to have any activity.

Would just like to know whether this would possible.

You are in luck — we have classified the uichi account as dormant, as outlined in our Name Squatting Policy:

We typically would release the username back into the public for you to claim; however, this may be a potentially popular username. I'd be happy to make the switch for you on our end to avoid anyone else jumping in and taking it!

Let me know which account you'd like to rename to uichi, and we'll get that taken care of for you. If you don't have an account yet, let me know once you sign up with a temporary username.

GitHubが定めているポリシーに則りアカウントを譲ることが出来ますが、このまま解放してしまうと他のユーザーに運悪く登録されてしまう可能性もあるため、アカウントを持っていないなら一時的に仮のアカウントを作って知らせてくださいとのこと。
