Former PYD co-chair Salih Muslim detained in Prague
Salih Muslim, former co-chair of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) , was detained on Saturday in the Czech capital of Prague, according to reports in Turkey’s semi-official Anadolu News Agency (AA).
Czech police did not immediately confirm the report.
The PYD has been a driving force behind the establishment of a de facto autonomous Kurdish-controlled region in Northern Syria. The Turkish government considers it to be a terror organisation due to its links to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) which has been waging an insurgency in Turkey’s south-east since the 1980’s.
Earlier this month The Turkish Interior Ministry placed a bounty of $1 million on Muslim and placed him on their red list of most wanted terrorists.
AA says Turkey is submitting an extradition request and that a Czech court will decide whether to extradite Muslim or release him.
