Musk: we kind of tabled Crew Dragon on Falcon Heavy (including the cislunar mission announced last Feb.) and focus our energies on BFR.

Caption from FH Youtube video posted the same day: "Falcon Heavy was designed from the outset to carry humans into space and restores the possibility of flying missions with crew to the Moon or Mars." ...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I noticed that, too. Elon sometimes offers… different messaging. Advantages of being in charge!

Aaah. There it is. All-in on BFR makes sense.

Congress can't have Falcon heavy launching people on dragon to the moon, cuz then we wouldn't need SLS/Orion. That's why it's been tabled.

FH doesn't have the upper stage capacity to do a piloted circumlunar mission, never mind a piloted lunar orbital mission, even if you throw away everything, and then it is more costly than its competitors. As revealed last week. Nothing to do with SLS, everything to do with FH.

Even if you threw away all three first stages, Falcon Heavy would not cost more then the competition.

But it couldn't do the same thing. Especially without a hydrolox upper stage.

I'm telling ya the raptor is full flow staged combustion using deep cryo Methalox. It will perform better than any hydrolox engine.

Hmm... this is interesting - I wonder how close F9-block 5 could get to cislunar for a crew dragon...

BFR is a much cleaner solution than FH. Three boosters, separation and three landings is messy... fun to watch... but messy.

Definitely the right call. BFR is the game changer and the soon it is operational the better.
