前回も言いましたし、これからも折に触れて言うと思うのですが、私がこの連載で勝手にナードコアとさせてもらっているアーティストの中で、当時も現在も、自分たちのことをナードコアだと思っていない方々が結構います。
特にナードコアという言葉ができあがる以前から、自身の活動を既存のジャンルにカテゴライズしていた人たちもそれなりにいたと思うんです。また別の新しいジャンルを作り上げた人たちもいたと思います。

This was mentioned last time, and I'm sure I'll bring it up again in future entries, but many of the artists I write about may not consider themselves "nerdcore" - I'm simply using it as a convenient way to categorize a set of artists with similar styles and sensibilities.
A number of these artists also began their activities before the term "nerdcore" was coined, and categorized themselves into pre-existing genres, like gabber or jungle. In addition, there were a few artists that chose to coin their own new terms to describe their music.


そういった中でも、特にインパクトがあったと思うのが大阪発の「ヴァーチャコア」ではないでしょうか。そのまま「ヴァーチャル」と「ハードコア」の混成語ですね。（その言葉の由来は後述します）
「ヴァーチャコア」というジャンルに含まれるユニットやチームが多いため、今回は前後編に分けて話を進めさせてもらいます。
その前編では、活発に活動をしており、かつ知名度の高い「サイケアウツ」を集中的に紹介したいと思います。
今回は、自分で得た情報と共に昔サイケアウツが受けたインタビューなども参考にさせてもらっています。そして、それらをもってしても明らかにならなくて、どうしても知りたかったことについては直接本人（Mr.ディラック）に聞いてしまったので、それらも今回のお話に入れていきたいと思います。

Likely the most well-known and influential self-coined "genre" was the Osaka-born "Virtuacore" - a simple combination of "virtual" and "hardcore", more on the name's origin a little later.
There were quite a number of artists and units active under the Virtuacore umbrella, so I'll be splitting it up into two halves.
For the first half, we'll focus solely on the most famous and longest-active group, サイケアウツ (Cycheouts).
Much of the information in this article was gathered from a number of interviews with and magazine features on Cycheouts from the time they were active. I also interviewed one of the main members of Cycheouts, Mr. Dirac, directly, in order to fill in the gaps and confirm certain pieces of information.





ますは「ヴァーチャコア」についてできるだけ詳しく説明したいと思います。
上述で「ヴァーチャル」と「ハードコア」の混成語と言いました。それはそれで間違いないのですが、「ヴァーチャ」の部分ですが実はセガの「バーチャファイター」から来ています。
そしてヴァーチャコア自体は何なのかと言えば、ジャンル名というより、集団の名前といったほうが正確です。正式には「Virtuacore Rec.」というレーベルが存在していました。
サウンド的には、全てという訳ではないのですが、概ねサンプリングに載せたジャングル・ドラムンベースが基本的な形です。

First, let's go into a little more detail on Virtuacore itself.
As mentioned above, "Virtuacore" is a portmanteau of "virtual" and "hardcore", but the name itself is also an homage to Sega's "Virtua" games, such as Virtua Fighter, which were very popular at the time the associated musicians were beginning their activities.
Virtuacore itself was less a genre name than simply a term used to refer to a collective of artists; specifically, it originated as a record label known as "Virtuacore Rec.".
While the styles of the artists associated with the Virtuacore collective could vary significantly, the main genres represented were jungle and drum'n'bass, often with heavy sampling involved.









当時、ヴァーチャコアの代表的な位置にいたのがサイケアウツ。
まさのドラムンベース＋サンプリングで活動していたユニットで、当時からずっと高い評価を得ていました。
またサイケアウツ（そしてサイケアウツG）は活動を初めた 1994年から 25年にもおよび長い歴史を紡いでいます。

During the time the Virtuacore collective was active, the most visible and representative assoicated act was Cycheouts.
In terms of sound, they epitomized the sampling-and-jungle style, and achieved a continuously high level of notoriety and poplarity from early on.
As both Cycheouts and Cycheouts Ghost (サイケアウツG), their history spans nearly 25 years from their beginnings in 1994.










この事実に触れず、これからも連載を続ける訳にも行かないのでちょっとデリケートな話をしますが、いわゆる著作権侵害の話です。
音楽に限らず、他分野でも似たようなことはあるのですが、日本の同人文化の特徴のひとつとして、発表された作品の制作数（販売や頒布される CDや同人誌の数）がかなり少なく、再販もしないし、デジタル配信も行われないことがかなりあります。
つまり、後から知った人が作品などを入手しようと思ったとしても、公式なルートでの入手方法がなくなっているケースが多いんです。
だから、例えば音楽だと CD が売り切れていたり、デジタル配信がされていなかったり、中古でも出回っていなかったりすると、不適切な方法で音源を入手するほかなく、過去の作品（特にナードコア）のほとんどがそういった方法を取らざる得なくなってしまいます。
普段はこんな話は絶対にしない、完全にダメな話になりますが、そんな状況なので当然のように音源を交換したり、掲示板などにアップロード・ダウンロードしたりする人が結構いると思うんです。
そんな行動を取ることによって人と繋がったり、友達になったりすることが自分も経験したりしています。
それらの行動の是非について掘り下げると趣旨が変わってしまいますのでこれ以上は行いませんが、現実であるということに間違いはありません。

This topic would have come up eventually, so it's time to bring up somewhat of a touchy subject: piracy.
While not limited to just music, interesting facet of the Japanese doujin subculture (and likely other similar subcultures) is that most released works have a very short print run, and quite often never receive reprints or digital sales.
In other words, people who find out about an artist well into their career, and become interested in their older works, likely will have no proper way of obtaining or enjoying those works, whether it be a CD, comic, or otherwise.
The upshot of this is that, for example, if a CD you wanted to listen to is sold out and not being distributed digitally, unless one of the few copies produced shows up for sale used (where prices can often be many times higher than the original sale price, with none of it going to the creator), the only way you would be able to listen to that CD - and appreciate the artist's work! - is to obtain the music through illegitimate means.
For nerdcore especially, the vast majority of releases have fallen into this state.
For obvious reasons, it's not something most people tend to discuss publically, but it should come as no surprise that private sharing of rips and posting of files to various internet forums is fairly widespread.
A positive upshot of that sharing is that it has the tendency to connect people and even cause communities to form.
I could spent an entire article on this subject, but that's not what we're here for right now - I just wanted to emphasize that it's a very real and inevitable thing.


で、2008年頃にはシャープネルファンとして、ネットで知り合った何人かと、とある J-Core 専用の非公開 torrent トラッカー＆掲示板のメンバーだったりしたこともありました。
そこでは、beauty:burst というサークルの「The Road Warriors」というコンピレーションがアップロードされており、DJ SHARPNEL も参加してたのでダウンロードしたこともありました。
その CD に収録されているほぼ全曲がお気に入りですが、その中のひとつにサイケアウツG の「Grime Gus」という曲が含まれていたのがサイケアウツとの出会いとなります。

With that in mind, in early 2008 I was still actively a very big DJ SHARPNEL fan, and through one of the people I met from that, I became a member of a J-Core torrent tracker/forum.
On that site, a CD called "The Road Warriors" from the label beauty:burst was uploaded, and I downloaded it after seeing DJ SHARPNEL on the tracklist.
I was extremely taken with almost the entire CD, and one of the standout tracks was my first exposure to Cycheouts: "Grime Gus" by Cycheouts Ghost.








その後、同じサイトでサイケアウツG の「REMIX and FREEZE DRY TRAX」がアップロードされていたので、ダウンロードし、聴いたものです。
色々なサンプリング曲がたくさんありすごく面白いと思いました。その中でも印象的だったのが、Siouxsie and the Banshees の「Happy House」をサンプリングしてる曲。
当時の私は原曲ではなく、同じくその曲をサンプリングしている、Mindless Self Indulgence の「Bitches」がすごく大好きだったのでサイケアウツG のを聴いた時「この音知っている！」とひとりで盛り上がったものです。
初めて買ったサイケアウツの CD とかはハッキリとはおぼえていないのですが、その後、どんどんサイケアウツ（とその周辺のアーティスト）のファンになっていきました。

Soon after that, Cycheouts Ghost's "REMIX and FREEZE DRY TRAX" was also uploaded, so I grabbed that.
The unique sound, as well as the scope and deftness of sampling, really grabbed me. At the time, the track that stuck out to me the most was one that heavily sampled Siouxsie and the Banshees' "Happy House".
In full honesty, I wasn't actually familiar with the original song at all, but I recognized it from another song I was very familiar with at the time, one that also sampled "Happy House": Mindless Self Indulgence's "Bitches".
I don't actually remember what the first Cycheouts-related CD I purchased was, but my interest grew very quickly from that point, and I became a very big fan.















●サイケアウツ時代 / Cycheouts era
1994年頃、当時ノイズミュージックをやっていた大橋明とオフマスク00 というパンクバンドをやっていた秋井仁が大阪のクラブで出会いました。
2人は当時日本を始め色々な国で流行っていた、ドラムンベースなどのテクノミュージックやヒップホップなどが好きで、それならとミートビートマニフェストのカバーバンドをやろうと言うことでサイケアウツというユニットを 1994年の春に結成しました。
結局のサイケアウツの音楽はアニメ、ゲームミュージック、映画などのサンプリングをドラムンベース・ジャングルと混ぜ合わせたスタイルで「ヴァーチャコア」とともに「不決定性ハードコア」などと呼ばれていました。
また「サイケアウツ」という名前はミートビートマニフェストの「Pyche Out」という曲が由来となっています。

Sometime before 1994, at-the-time noize musician Oohashi Akira met Akii Hitoshi, frontman of the punk band Off Mask 00, at a club in Osaka.
The two shared interests in both drum'n'bass and techno music in general, as well as hip hop, and in spring of 1994 they decided to form a Meat Beat Manifestocover band, which they named Cycheouts (サイケアウツ).
What ended up being Cycheouts's musical style, a collage fusion of anime, game, and movie samples with drum'n'bass and jungle music, was referred to by them selves as both "Virtuacore" and "不決定性ハードコア" ("indeterministic hardcore")
The "Cycheouts" name was taken from the name of the Meat Beat Manifesto track "Pyche Out".


メンバーの大橋アキラはサイケアウツの結成以前、殺害塩化ビニールなどで知られているクレイジーSKBと一緒に殺倶（サッグ）というノイズユニットをやっており、そのクレイジーSKB がリーダーのバンドである「猛毒」が 1992年にリリースした「サイバー長介」の作曲も大橋アキラが行ったそうです。ちょっと聴いてもらえたらと思います。

Turning back the clock a bit, before Cycheouts, Oohashi Akira was in a noise unit called 殺倶（サッグ） (read as "thug") with THE CRAZY SKB, owner of punk label 殺害塩化ビニール. In 1992, one of THE CRAZY SKB's bands, 猛毒 (moudoku, "deadly poison") released the song "サイバー長介" ("Cyber Chosuke"), which was actually written by Oohashi Akira. Let's give it a listen.









1992年に「ドラムンベースにドリフのサンプリングを乗せた曲」というのはまさに「ナードコア」と呼ばれる音楽の始祖の一つだと考えられます。

A song released in 1992 combining drum'n'bass with samples of The Drifters - undeniably one of the cornerstones of what we're now referring to as the nerdcore movement.


インターネットはまだ初期の段階ですのでサイケアウツにおける 1994年から1996年の頃の詳細はほとんど情報が無いんです。
メンバーはそれぞれサイケアウツ用に別名義を作っており、秋井仁は「MCロックンロール」、大橋アキラは最初「マッドDOPA」と名乗っていました。
インタビューによると最初の 3回ぐらいのライブには「コールタール」というバンドのヴォーカルでもあった「イサオ」も参加していたようです。
そして、同じ頃、大橋がジャングルイベントで「インドラ」と「DIE-SUCK」の 2人と出会い、サイケアウツに加入。その後はメンバーがどんどん増えていき「ハル」「カッターヘル」「akky」そして 1995年に「ラッキー」が加入、8人構成となり、サイケアウツが完成しました。
大橋が打ち込み担当、MCロックンロール・ハル・DIE-SUCK がヴォーカル担当（DIE-SUCK はグラインドコア的ヴォーカル）、カッターヘルがライブでスクラッチを担当し、ラッキーは VJ を含めた、サイケアウツのヴィジュアルを担当していました。
そして、残りのインドラと akky はガイアとオルテガという名前にして HATER-E（兵隊）となり、ライブの時のセキュリティーをやっていました。少しあとで詳しく説明します。

As the internet was still in its very early days, little information remains about Cycheouts from the 1994-1996 period.
Most members of the band adopted a specific alias for their activities with Cycheouts: Akii Hitoshi went as "MCロックンロール" (MC Rock'n'Roll), and Oohashi Akira initially used the name "マッドDOPA" (Mad DOPA).
According to an interview, approximately the first three Cycheouts live performances also included a member of the band Coaltar known as "イサオ" (Isao) on vocals.
Around the same period, Oohashi met "インドラ" (Indra) and "DIE-SUCK" at a jungle event, and invited them to join the band. Further members HAL, Cutter Hell, and akky joined throughout 1994, and in 1995 LUCKY rounded out the 8-person Cycheouts lineup.
Oohashi handled virtually all of the musical composition and production; MC Rock'n'Roll, HAL, and DIE-SUCK all acted as MCs; Cutter Hell was in charge of turntablism; and LUCKY handled VJing as well as the bulk of Cycheouts's visual output.
The last two members, Indra and akku, took the names Gaia and Ortega, and acted as a live security force known as HATER-E (a mutation of 兵隊 'heitai' which means "soldier"). More on that a bit later.














結成後、A-10 Records というレーベルを立ち上げ、そこからカセットテープで音源のリリースを開始しました。
そのほとんどが詳細不明となってますが、1996年にリリースした「KING OF THE BEATS」というアルバムがサイケアウツとして初めて（ある程度）流通に乗ったようです。
タワーレコードでも販売されましたが、結果としてディズニーの関係者に見つかってしまい以下の曲のサンプリングによりクレームを受け、発売中止となってしまいました。

Soon after forming, Cycheouts started a label called A-10 Records to release cassette tapes on.
Information on these early cassette releases is scarce, but there were quite a number of them. The first Cycheouts release to receive somewhat wide distribution was the 1996 cassette album "KING OF THE BEATS".
After being sold at a number of Tower Records locations, the tape (and specifically the track below) caught the eye of someone involved with Disney, which eventually led to a legal claim and the release being pulled from sale.









この時代のサイケアウツのライブパフォーマンスはカオティックでかっこよく、当時としてはすごく印象的だったらしいです。
曲に合わせてカッターヘルがスクラッチをやって、ラッキーが VJ でアニメビジュアルを映し出し続けていました。
MCロックンロールは笑いを取り入れたオリジナルヴォーカルで歌い（「Live and Let Die」 での「おめこOR DIE!」など）、DIE-SUCK がデスメタル的な叫び声を上げ、ハルが MC だけではなく皿回しをやったり、ヌンチャクを振り回したりしていました。
そして、パブリック・エネミーのオマージュで HATER-E の 2人がアーミールックでセキュリティーとして威圧したり、ステージを警備したりしていました。
そんな、サイケアウツのライブ活動は大阪がメインでしたが、東京にも遠征していたようです。

Cycheouts's live performances were well-known and very popular at the time for being quite energetic and chaotic.
With Cutter Hell supplementing the music with record scratching, LUCKY would provide the visual component of fast-paced, spastic anime visuals.
MC Rock'n'Roll acted as the main MC, providing comedic original vocals for many songs (such as "おめこ (pussy) OR DIE!" for "Live and Let Die"), DIE-SUCK provided death-metal style screaming, and HAL would not only MC but also perform plate spinning and show off his nunchaku skills on stage.
The two HATER-E, in an homage to Public Enemy, would dress up in army outfits and guard the stage and intimidate the crowd.
Cycheouts mostly performed in Osaka, but frequently in Toyko and other cities as well.














1997年頃にはそれなりに注目されており、1997年から1998年ぐらいの時期には音楽やカルチャー雑誌に度々取り上げられ、ビデオインタビューなんかもしていました。
メジャーデビューしていたとは言えませんが、菅野よう子などが所属していた、グランドファンクのサブレーベルである、「Red Alert Records」からリリースされたコンピレーションCDに参加したり、EP をリリースしたりしていました。
その EP のタイトルが「ヴァーチャコア」で、以下のJ-PHONE の TVCM の公式リミックスにも収録されていました。
ちなみに「ヴァーチャコア」がリリースされたぐらいの時に大橋の名義が「マッドDOPA」から「Mr.ディラック」に改名されました。

By 1997, Cycheouts had gained a certain amount of recognition, and throughout 1997 and 1998 they appeared in a number of magazine articles and interviews, and even a video interview.
While it doesn't quite count as a "major debut", Cycheouts participated in a pair of compilations from and released an EP on Red Alert Records, a sublabel of Grand Funk - a label to which a number of well-known artists such as Yoko Kanno are also signed.
The EP, also titled Virtuacore, included an official remix of a J-PHONE commercial - check it out below.
Also, around the time that the Virtuacore EP was released, Oohashi changed his alias within Cycheouts from Mad DOPA to "Mr. Dirac".









1997年に同じく Red Alert Records から「解放戦線 -Virtuacore Rec. Compilation-」をリリース。これに参加していたサイケアウツ以外のユニットについては後編で触れていきたいと思います。
あと、タイトルの「解放戦線」は「著作権解放戦線」で KLFへのイマージュになっています。
Red Alert Records のコンピレーションに収録されたサイケアウツの「WE HATE ALL」と「無人O.B.」はユニットとしては珍しく、スタジオで録ったヴォーカルが入っており、ライナーノーツには歌詞も掲載されており、バンドっぽさが強く出ています。
また、この頃には公式に J-Pop アーティストのリミックスを行っており、YOSHIKA やルパン三世などのメジャー的な活動も少しずつ増えてきていました。

Later in 1997, Red Alert Records also released 解放戦線 -Virtuacore Rec. Compilation- - a compilation of music from artists associated with the Virtuacore collective, the rest of whom we'll cover in the next entry.
The title, "解放戦線", is actually an abbreviation of "著作権解放戦線" (chosakuken kaihou sensen, "copyright liberation front"), a reference to The KLF.
The two songs Cycheouts contributed to compilations on Red Alert Records, "WE HATE ALL" and "無人O.B." (mujin o.b.), are unique in that they feature studio-recorded vocals and even have lyrics in the liner notes, a reminder that Cycheouts was in some ways a band as much as a techno unit.
Cycheouts also begain to do official remix work, including for J-Pop artist YOSHIKA as well as Lupin III.


サイケアウツのライブ以外の活動は、Mr.ディラックがほぼすべてのプログラミングを担当し、フライヤーや CD のデザインはラッキーがやっていました
また、サイケアウツは CD だけではなく、関連グッズとして、ラッキーデザインのサイケアウツ Tシャツをたくさん販売しており、一部の Tシャツはこの後紹介する「beauty:burst」というブランド名で販売していました。
そのほとんどは色々と危ないデザインだったので、おおむねライブ会場や一部店舗での限定的な取り扱いだったようです。
自分が持ってるものや、ネットで見たことあるのをざっと数えると、少なくとも 20種類以上あるのではないでしょうか。全て少数生産だったはずなので CD よりも Tシャツをコンプリートするほうが難しいかもしれません。

Outside of live performances, the bulk of Cycheouts's musical output was composed by Mr. Dirac, and LUCKY handled flyer and CD designs.
Additionally, Cycheouts made and sold not just CDs, but also an expansive line of t-shirts also designed by LUCKY. Some of these t-shirts were released under the previously-mentioned beauty:burst label, which I'll cover in more detail in a future article.
Most of these shirts had designs that could potentially be dangerous for legal reasons, and therefore were mostly only sold at events and rarely in some storefronts.
Combining the ones I own myself and the designs I've seen online and elsewhere, Cycheouts sold at least 20 or more different shirt designs - and because the print runs were likely much lower than those of the CD, getting a complete collection of Cycheouts shirts seems to be the more difficult task by far!














あと、活動初期にしか使われていなかったようですが、サイケアウツのマスコットキャラクター「サイケちゃん」というものもありました。
「KING OF THE BEATS」のジャケット、「ソレエユ」というサイケアウツのものも置かれたレコードショップのフライヤーなどに使用されていました。
また、本当どうか真偽の程は不明ですが、ワンダーフェスティバルにてサイケアウツのフィギュアも売っていたらしいです。

Though it was mainly only used in their early days, Cycheouts also had a mascot character known as Cyche-chan.
She was used on the KING OF THE BEATS jacket, as well as on a flyer for Les Disques Du Soleil, a record store which stocked Cycheouts releases.
There's even a passing mention - potentially just a joke - of a Cycheouts figure being sold at Wonder Festival in 2000.









1997年の Red Alert Records からリリースされた「ヴァーチャコア」を皮切りに 1998年からはサイケアウツの音源がカセットではなくて CD-R で発売されるようになりました。
ただし、A-10 Records からは引き続き、コンピレーションやちゃんとしたアルバムとともに「夢のサイケ王国」というブランドでイベント限定などのリリースも続けていました。

From 1998, alongside the more official releases from Red Alert Records, Cycheouts shifted gears and began selling their own CD-R releases of their music.
In addition to compilation and full--album releases on A-10 Records, Cycheouts also started up a new brand, "夢のサイケ王国" (yume no cyche ookoku, a reference to Yume no Crayon Oukoku) for selling event-only and similar CDs.









最初の数枚以外、CD のデザインは結構ユニークなプロダクトになっており、四角い紙のジャケットではなく、フルカラーの円盤型シールを使い、真ん中の穴の部分と思われる所も印刷し、それを CD ケースの真ん中に貼ったりするようなものもありました。
（そのアイデアを考えたのは次回紹介するトラフィックジャミーズのデルって方でした。）
この CD はイベント限定かつ一度きりの販売だったこともあって超レア盤になっています。
また、同じ CD でも、曲を入り変えたり、隠しボーナストラックを入れたりしていたので、何枚買っても全て内容が微妙に違うということもありました。
面白いのだと、イベントでライブを録音して、その場で CD-R に焼いて売ってたこともあります。
イベント以外の販売だと「Buyordie!!!!」というお店にて店舗と通販で委託販売してはいたものの、ほぼオフィシャルショップに形で取り扱われていました。
その他、上述のソレエユやバオバブのレコード屋、WILD WORLDという Tシャツ専門店などでもサイケアウツ関連の商品が販売されました。

Aside from their first couple CD-R releases, all of Cycheouts's releases shared an interesting unique design: rather than a traditional square CD jacket, they used full-disc stickers for disc artwork, but instead of throwing out the usually-disposed middles of the stickers they chose to continue printing the disc artwork onto them, and then to affix them in place on the front-outside of the CD case, creating a sort of multi-layered effect to the artwork of the final product.
(That idea actually came from Deru of Traffic Jammies, who we'll talk about more next time.)
Many of these CDs were only sold at a single or a few events, and most have since become quite rare.
Once or twice they even went as far as to record their own live set, and then burn it onto CDs immediately after which would then be sold at that same event.
Another interesting feature of Cycheouts releases is that at times they would change the track ordering or add different, extra bonus tracks between different copies of the same release, meaning you could buy multiple copies of a title and get different content on each one.
For sales outside of events, the Tokyo shop Buyordie!!!! was as close to an official storefront as Cycheouts could be said to have.
Their released were also sold in other shops such as the above-mentioned Soleil, a record shop in Osaka called Baobab, and a t-shirt shop called WILD WORLD.









また、全部ではないのですが、一部の CD にはトラックリストが付属されておらず、未だに曲名が不明なものもたくさんあったりします。
そういうのや公式サイトを作らず、BBS のみだったりするスタイルは、ちょっとだけミステリアスな雰囲気を出したかったからだそうです。
確かに私もサイケアウツの情報を知りたくなってより深く情報収集をしていたのでこの戦略は間違っていなかったようですね。

While it wasn't the case for every release, a number of Cycheouts CDs had no tracklisting included at all, and they have a number of songs with titles unknown to this day.
That practice, along with the lack of any official Cycheouts website apart from an official BBS, was part of an active effort on the group's part to create a sense of mystery and intrigue.
It's likely precisely because of that lack of readily available information that I (and probably others) became so interested in Cycheouts's history, so in a sense the plan worked extremely well.


1999年には、おそらくサイケアウツ史上最大のステージである、フジロックフェスティバルに出演となり、そこで多くの方がサイケアウツのことを知ったのではないでしょうか。

1999 saw what was likely Cycheouts's biggest gig ever: a spot in the "Virgin Tent" at Fuji Rock Festival.









サイケアウツの名義、特にライブ用には色々な別名義がありました。
何らかの理由でメンバーが揃わない時のライブでは「サイケ1/2」（らんま1/2から）として数回、出演したことがありました。
また、どのような違いがあったかは不明ですが「ディラーズフリート」とか「ジャングルアサシン」などもあったようです。
あと、Mr.ディラックと MCロックンロールの 2人組ユニット「L.S.COOL D」というのがあって、そちらはヒップホップ風のまさにミートビートマニフェストカバーバンドだったらしい。
そして、お正月にしかやらなかった「ファンキーヘル」という、Mr.ディラックと WILD WORLD の中島エンパイアによるの「サイケアウツをもっとヤバくした」ユニットも存在していたようです。
くわえて、Mr.ディラックによる、別のひとり名義である「ティンカーゲル」（ピーターパンのティンカーベルを、スロッビング・グリッスルの頭文字の TG に合わせた名前）なども。

Cycheouts had a number of alternate and one-off aliases, mostly for certain live performances.
Went not all members could show up for a regular Cycheouts live for some reason, they went by "サイケ1/2" ("Cyche 1/2", a reference to Ranma 1/2).
Again, details are scarce, but they also performed at least once under names like "ディラーズフリート" ("Delaz Fleet") and "Jungle Assassin".
Mr. Dirac and MC Rock'n'Roll also had a side unit called L.S.COOL D, which was apparently a hip-hop flavored Meat Beat Manifesto cover band, like Cycheouts was originally planned to be.
Furthermore, Mr. Dirac and Nakajima Empire of WILD WORLD formed "ファンキーヘル" ("Funky Hell"), a live unit that would only perform once a year on the new year, and was self-described as like a supercharged version of Cycheouts.
Mr. Dirac also has had a few other solo aliases, such as "ティンカーゲル" ("Tinker Gel", a mutation of Peter Pan's "Tinkerbell" made to have the same initials as Throbbing Gristle).





●サイケアウツからサイケアウツG への改名 / Transition from Cycheouts to Cycheouts Ghost
ウィキペディアによると、サイケアウツは 2000年頃に活動を休止したと書いてありますが実はそうではなくて、（ギリで）2004年までサイケアウツとして活動をし続けていました。
しかし、2003年ぐらいから活動の形が少しずつ変わって行ったのは間違いないようです。
1990年代には月2、3回はライブを行っていましたが 2000年代になるとその頻度がぐんと減って、2003年になると年数回という感じになりました。同時に CD リリースの頻度も下がっていきました。
おそらく、サイケアウツとしての最後のライブは、大阪のクラブKARMAで行われた、2003年末の年越しの COUNT DOWN イベントだったらしいです。

According to both Wikipedia as well as a few official artist profiles, Cycheouts ceased activites "around 2000". In fact, they remained active all the way into (just barely) 2004.
That being said, around 2003 or so they did begin to show signs of change.
In the late 90s, Cycheouts would often be performing as often as 2-3 times a month, but that frequency began to decrease starting with the new millenium, and by 2003 they were only appearing a few times a year. CD releases began to become similarly sparse.
Most likely the final Cycheouts live show was their appearance at the 2003 new year's countdown event at Osaka's Club KARMA.









約半年後の 2004年5月には Mr.ディラックと名義を「赤城エンタープライズ」に改名してたカッターヘルで「サケアウツG」（Cycheouts Ghost）として活動を再開しました。
改名自体に特に深い意味はなく、他のメンバーがそれぞれ別の活動を行っており、2人での活動となるとやり方もライブの雰囲気も変わるから、名前も新しくしたいという感じだったらしいです。
サイケアウツとしての解散後のメンバーの活動としては、MCロックンロールの秋井仁が LOVEBEACH というユニットで活動を開始し、引き続き現在もそちらでやっています。
ハルは当時からゴッドOD というユニットのメンバーでもあり、しばらくはそちらで活動をしていました。（詳しくは後編で説明します）
ラッキーは引き続き beauty:burst からコンピレーション CD をリリースしており、その紹介も別の回で詳しく説明したいと思います。
DIE-SUCK はグラインドコア業界でいろんなバンドをやったり参加したりしており、インドラはジャングル DJ をやっています。
残りのもう一人の HATER-E だった akky はその後、特に音楽活動は行っていないようです。

Just under half a year later, in May of 2004, Mr. Dirac and Cutter Hell (now going as "赤城エンタープライズ" ("Akagi Enterprise"))returned as サケアウツG (Cycheouts Ghost).
According to Mr. Dirac, there wasn't any particular deep meaning to the change - the other members had simply moved on to other projects, and with the two-man live act being significantly different, it seemed prudent to make an adjustment to the group's name.
After the dissolution of Cycheouts, Akii Hitoshi (MC Rock'n'Roll) has continued with other groups such as his own band LOVEBEACH, and is still very active in the Osaka music scene.
HAL had been a member of the unit ゴッドOD (God OD) since the early days of Virtuacore, and that group is also still around - more on them next time.
LUCKY continued to operate beauty:burst, releasing both more t-shirts as well as a wide array of compilation CDs. I'll cover this more in-depth in the future as well.
DIE-SUCK has remained active with a number of bands in the grindcore scene, and Indra currently performs as a jungle DJ.
The other HATER-E, akky, hasn't had any major musical activity since the Cycheouts split.




●サイケアウツG 時代 / Cycheouts Ghost era
2004年頃にROMZ Record からのアルバム作成の依頼をきっかけにサイケアウツG となりました。
そして、2004年5月15日に大阪ドームでで開催された SATURN でサイケアウツGの初ライブがありました。
パフォーマンス的には、サイケアウツと全然違って二人だけがストイックな感じで DJ＆スクラッチをプレイしていました。
サイケアウツG でのライブはほぼサイケアウツG 名義の曲をかけていましたが、たまにサイケアウツ時代の曲を流すこともあったようです。

In early 2004, after being approached by new label ROMZ Record about releasing a new album, Cycheouts transformed into Cycheouts Ghost.
May 15, 2004 saw the first Cycheouts Ghost live show, at SATURN held at the Osaka City Dome.
The live performance style of Cycheouts Ghost is wildly different from that of Cycheouts: as a two-person unit, Mr. Dirac stoically mixes tracks while Akagi Enterprise continues to provide scratching as he did previously.
For the most part, Cycheouts Ghost live sets are comprised mainly of tracks made under the Cycheouts Ghost name, but time and again they'll include a few Cycheouts-era songs as well.









ライブ時のビジュアルはラッキーではなくなりましたが、ロカペニスにより同じレベルのヤバさがあるものがサイケアウツG 用に作成され、ライブでよく使われました。

Although LUCKY was no longer performing as VJ, ロカペニス (Rokapenis) provided a similarly chaotic set of visuals used in many Cycheouts Ghost performances.









サイケアウツとサイケアウツG のサウンドを別々に聴くと全然違うようにも聴こえますが本当はそうじゃなくて、サイケアウツがいつだって少しずつ変わってるから違うように聴こえるのだと思います。
2004年に ROMZ から発売されたサイケアウツG の 1st アルバム「VIKALPA（分別）」には、サイケアウツ時代に発売された曲も含まれていますが、サイケアウツとサイケアウツG の名前の違いはそのサウンドと関係すら無いと思えるほどに近いものです。
このアルバムは 2005年にドイツの Suburban Trash Industries というレーベルからアナログ版が発売されて、それによりサイケアウツが海外での知名度を高めたと思います。
同じく 2005年にはまた ROMZ から 2nd アルバム「SIMSTIM（擬験）」が発売しました。
SIMSTIM のサウンドはドラムンベースより少しグライムに近い感じで、3曲目には MCロックンロールのヴォーカルが入っていたり、インドラやゴッドOD のリミックスなども収録されるなど昔のサイケアウツのメンツが引き続き絡んでいました。

If you were to compare a pair of randomly-selected tracks from Cycheouts and Cycheouts Ghost, it might seem like the two incarnations have wildly different musical style. However, it would be more apt to simply say that Cycheouts's musical style has constantly been changing and evolving, and the transformation to Cycheouts Ghost simply happened right in the middle of that.
Indeed, Cycheouts Ghost's first album "VIKALPA（分別）" from 2004 includes a number of tracks composed during the Cycheouts era, including some originally released under the Cycheouts name.
That album received an analog reissue in 2005 from German label Suburban Trash Industries, giving Cycheouts Ghost some of their earliest major overseas exposure.
Later that same year, their second album "SIMSTIM（擬験）" was released, also from ROMZ.
SIMSTIM saw a shift to a slightly darker sound with a significant amount of influence from grime music. It also featured three tracks with vocals from MC Rock'n'Roll, as well as a collaboration with Indra and a remix from ゴッドOD, continuing the musical relationship with a number of the original Cycheouts members.









サイケアウツG もサイケアウツと同じように、ちゃんとしたアルバムとともにイベント限定などの CD-R シリーズをリリースしていました。
見た目を新しく、あまり見ないソフト型の CD ケースを使ってジャケットの絵柄をある程度一致させた「サイケアウツ業務用」シリーズで、ライブ音源やミックス CD、未発売曲集などを 2004年から 2009年にかけてリリースしました。
ライブの他には、GUHROOVY やコミケに参加した beauty:burst のブースでも販売されました。
このシリーズでも昔のようにライブ音源の後におまけ曲を入れたり、曲順を変えたりするパターンもたまに行っていたようです。

Cycheouts Ghost also continued Cycheouts's tradition of releasing self-produced CD-Rs alongside their full-fledged albums.
For the new era, they created a new "Cycheouts Wholesale" series, coming in softshell CD cases and featuring standardized artwork across all the releases. The series spanned from 2004-2009, and mainly focused on releasing live mixes, as well as a few mix CDs and a collection of unreleased tracks.
These CDs were sold at live shows, shops such as GUHROOVY and the L.P.U. Store, and at beauty:burst's Comiket booth.
The series also saw the return of randomly-selected bonus tracks being appended to the end of certain CDs, and different versions changing up the track order in the case of the unreleased song collection.









2009年には 5年ぶりの 3rd アルバム「Prapañca［戯論］」を ROMZ からリリースしました。
それが ROMZ からの最後のリリースとなり、2010年にはサイケアウツG と DJ TUTTLE が新しいレーベル「NODE」を立ち上げました。
NODE からは年1回ぐらいのペースでなんとかアーメンシリーズの EP をリリースし、2013年には 4th アルバム「反対人間」をリリースしています。
反対人間の頃のサウンドは、1990年代のガバやハッピーハードコアそしてアシッドハウスの影響が多少あったように感じます。
同じ頃には MURDER CHANNEL などのレーベルのリミックスなどに参加してました。

In May of 2009, after a five-year wait, Cycheouts Ghost's third album "Prapañca［戯論］" was released from ROMZ.
This ended up being the final release of the ROMZ label, and in 2010 Cycheouts Ghost and DJ TUTTLE started a new label called "NODE".
Cycheouts Ghost released new ramen-themed EPs on NODE about once a year, and in 2013 put out their fourth album "反対人間 - Opposite Human".
Opposite Human began to show influences from both early 90s gabber/happy hardcore, as well as acid house music.
Around the same time, Cycheouts Ghost began to frequently contribute compilation tracks and remixes to a number of other labels, most significantly to MURDER CHANNEL.









また、2011年から、サイケアウツG 公式のツイッターとサウンドクラウドが作られて、ようやくネット上での活動が少しだけ進化したようです

In 2011, Cycheouts Ghost started official Twitter and Soundcloud accounts, moving away from the mysterious, nebulous image employed in the early days of Cycheouts.









2012年からは、Mr.ディラックはトラフィックジャミーズのデルと一緒に新しいユニット「Jon&Ponch」を結成しました。
Jon&Ponch の音もまさにアシッドハウスでサイケアウツGの曲も色々とリミックスし、Bandcamp という音楽配信販売サイトで販売しています。

In 2012, Mr. Dirac and Deru of Traffic Jammies formed a new unit called Jon&Ponch.
Jon&Ponch's music emphasizes the acid house influence also found in Cycheouts Ghost tracks at the time, and they released a number of Cycheouts Ghost remixes on Bandcamp.


2014年には Mr.ディラックのノイズミュージック時代の「THUG SYSTEM」のリマスター版が、Terminal Explosion より 300枚限定の CD として発売されました。
2015年からは目立った活動が少しずつ少なくなってきてるけど、サンクラには定期的に新曲をあげているして、少ないながらライブもやっています。

In 2014, a remastered edition of some of the music Mr. Dirac created during his early noise days as "THUG SYSTEM" was released by label Terminal Explosion as a limited-to-300 CD.


2017年の 4月末にはサイケアウツなどの過去の音源をデジタル化して、bandcamp にて配信するプロジェクト「Stereo Records」が開始されました。
（「Stereo Records」というのは、元々サイケアウツ時代にそのメンツがやていたマスタリングサービスの名前）
最近、中古販売サイトなどではサイケアウツなどの CD に結構なプレミア価格が付くようになっていますが、サイケアウツの音源を聴きたい人のために、本人たちから直接購入でき、かつプレミアを払わなくても楽しめるプロジェクトとなっています。
そして実は私が管理人だったりします。これからもどんどん出して行きますのでよろしくお願いします！

In April of 2017, a new project called Stereo Records was started using Bandcamp, to release digital editions of the back catalogs of Cycheouts, Cycheouts Ghost, and related artists.
("Stereo Records" was originally a mastering service ran by Cycheouts in the early 2000s.)
Secondhand copies of Cycheouts's releases have always, and especially recently, been quite expensive, and the project was created in order to allow fans to enjoy their music directly from the creators without having to spend unreasonable amounts of money.
Full disclosure: I'm actually the person who manages the project, with support from the artists. We still have plenty of releases coming up, so give it a bookmark!
