Basic Climbing Class (BCC)

2018 Class Information

Per Boeing Recreation Policy, all Boeing Persons must be members of the Boeing Alpine Society (BOEALPS) in order to take a class from BOEALPS. Boeing Persons are defined as Boeing Employees, Contractors, Retirees, and immediate family members of the aforementioned groups.
Non-Boeing Persons may not be a member of BOEALPS, but are able to take classes.

Please read this information carefully!

  • Boeing Persons (read above), must sign up for a BOEALPS Membership HERE prior to signing up for the Basic Climbing Class. Once you have signed up for a membership, proceed to the Boeing Persons Student Application below.
  • Non-Boeing Persons, proceed directly to the Non-Boeing Person Student Application below. The non-Boeing application will be held open for 2 hours. Once applications are closed, a selection process will occur and students will be notified of the status of acceptance to the class.

Cost: $350 for BOEALPS Members     $450 for Non-Members

Please note: You will receive a confirmation email that we received your application. Your acceptance in the Basic Climbing Course is not guaranteed until an acceptance email is sent to you on February 5th, 2018. Please DO NOT contact us to enquire about your enrollment.

The BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class (BCC) is a great opportunity to learn the skills that are necessary for basic competence in alpine travel. This course covers at an introductory level everything from proper clothing and route finding to crevasse rescue and glacier travel. If you are new to the outdoors or have outdoor experience but lack the training to go with it, then this course is a must for you!

Class sessions are held on Wednesday evenings, with one-day weekend outings (either Saturday or Sunday) from mid February through June. Note that two full weekend outings are also scheduled during the class (snow camping and graduation climb).

Invitation to Instructors

For those who have the experience and the training to go with it the BOEALPS Basic Climbing Class is a fun class to help instruct. If you are interested in participating in this class as an instructor please fill out the instructor application.

Course Information

Orientation / First Lecture

  • Date: February 7th, 2018 at 7:00 PM
  • Location: Boeing 2-22 Building
  • Note: Required for all students

BCC Fitness Eval

  • Date: February 17th, 2018 at 7 AM
  • Note: Required for all students and instructors
  • Hike Mt. Si round trip with 20lb pack

Lectures

Outings

  • When: Saturdays and/or Sundays March 3rd thru June 3rd
  • No Outings on Easter, Mother’s Day, or Memorial Day Weekends
  • Two Weekends will be overnight, both Saturday & Sunday
  • Location: All around western Washington
