Older adults who consume 1-6 alcoholic drinks a week have a lower risk of dementia compared to those who abstain from drinking by randomusefulbits in psychology

[–]phanes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my little theory on this has always been that it's actually an opposite relationship. I.e.: people who don't drink do so because they can't handle alcohol very well which is an indicator of the fact that they may have traits that are pre disposed to dementia where as the drinkers drink because their brains are "heartier". I dunno.

We have put about 7500 miles on it since purchase and it still starts sluggishly.

Everywhere, saw service records before purchase and it had perfect 5000 mile service intervals but I guess it sat for a year or 2 and the oil gelled up or something. The drain plug and filter were seized on pretty nice, took wd-40 and a foot long breaker with a 6pt to get the plug off,had to do the stab the flathead through the filter trick to get the filter off. Found several thimblefuls of sludge under the oil filler cap and the engine struggles to start. Tested the battery and starter everything is in working order.

For 98-02 model outbacks and legacys you don't even have to break it, the weather stripping is so poorly designed you can simply peel back the back window and unlock the door in about 8-10 seconds flat if you know what you're doing.

Source: I have locked my keys in my 02 outback like 20 times.

You're getting downvoted but I kinda feel you. Mikes lineups were hella simple but they worked. Some of steves lineups were weird tonight. Also milanesa is where it's at.

This really needs to get up to the top. Its really not a good look for the subreddit as a whole for an r/all thread to have its top comments be a defense of slavery.

Bruce Bochy undergoes minor heart procedure by DrunkenSavior in SFGiants

[–]phanes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only info I've found yet in my unprofessional uneducated opinion the outlook seems ok:

er a single procedure, more than 50% of patients with an otherwise normal heart can enjoy freedom from arrhythmias, according to studies that have followed patients typically for one year. With two or more procedures, the efficacy can be as high as 80-90% in other recent case series. These results compare favorably with data on natural evolution of the disease or success observed with antiarrhythmic drugs [9]

This is the top rated comment in this thread to the tune of nearly 5000 upvotes and its one of the single biggest loads of horse shit ive ever seen in my life. This place is no different than the comments section on youtube now.

If you have oil in the coolant then you also have a decent sized failure in the head gasket as well so in general your days are numbered with that car.

2006 Yamaha FJR1300, 98k, still has cylinder honing marks by NorseZymurgist in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]phanes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This discussion still comes up with regularity. The cross hatching is there to promote oil flow, in a working engine the pistons are never actually touching the cylinders. If a situation occurred where you lost the cross hatching you would almost certainly know long before you tore your engine down.

Edit: Sorry I always try and focus on not being patronizing in my posts here but I feel like I still failed.
