Orange probably originated in southern China. The name of the orange is borrowed from German Apfelsine that mean Chinese apple. From China, the orange transferred west to India and southern Europe, where it has been grown since the 1400s. In southern Europe, cultivated orange tree brought as ornamental trees. Commercial cultivation of oranges began in Spain only in the 1700s and in Italy 100 years later. Today oranges are grown in all parts of the world, particularly in the subtropical regions of Brazil and the United States. These countries are the largest orange producers. During our winter season, we import the largest volumes from Spain.
Jumbo oranges will always from the first flowering. These usually provide the juiciest fruits. Navelinas is the variety that starts citrus season and the variety that concludes called Valencia Late. In this arrangement maturing varieties: Navelinas, Salustianas, Navel, Navel Late, Late Lane, Powell Summer Navel Late, Valencia, Valencia Late.
Oranges are both blonde and blood. The most famous blond varieties are navels, Navelinas, Salustianas, Shamouti and Valencia Late. Cara Cara and Washington Sanguinas is so-called half-blood oranges. Moro, Sanguinelli and Tarocco blood oranges.
