Tim Hortons made more than $100 million in profit last year, but I guess it's just too darned strapped for cash to give its minimum wage employees paid breaks and basic benefitshttps://twitter.com/CBCAlerts/status/948602979762008064 …

Excited for every astroturph "pro-business" outfit to pull an "I told you so" with this one, as if it's some law of nature playing out rather than just pure, unfiltered robber baron greed

Pretty sure any official letters from corporate would have at least logo or letterhead.....calling bs on the letter.
-
This to me seemed like a franchisee's decision, affecting only the location(s) owned by that franchisee, not something chain-wide.
-
Yes, it's from the (extremely rich) owners of a franchise
-
No I'm pretty sure it's not. Generic letter with nothing other than a employees signature. Will not hold any kind of legal weight behind it.

Actually they just got a $2.60 raise.
-
lol, good at math are you
-
$11.40 to $14.00. Did your grade 4 math teacher fail you? I’m sorry.
-
Also in every one of those above shifts they get paid more for the time in the store than before. 3x11.4=$34.20, 2.75x14=$38.50.

"Once the costs [..] are better know[n] we may bring back [...] the benefits" is great because a) they won't, and b) they don't even know that the wage increase will have any significant impact. It's almost like it's just an excuse to cut benefits...
-
Or they'll use another time-tested stratagem: Announce draconian cuts; let those simmer for a time; then, with great benevolence and generosity, bring back a few benefits totaling far less value than those cut but to the great relief and appreciation of the masses.

We billionaires are capital personified and therefore we must cut wages to continue the cycle of pointless capital accumulation, which will go on until the planet is destroyed or you revolt. But please don’t revolt. Xoxo -Your employer

I’m not understanding why people should get paid breaks... you get paid to work... not break. Why should you get an incentive to work on your birthday? It’s not a national holiday.
-
Because they can't just go home and do what they want in that time, they have to stay at work and be ready to go back on the job.
-
And?? It’s a break. Not time to go home. People should not get paid to do nothing.
-
They're not paid to do nothing, they're paid to do what the employer tells them to. And that's stay at work while getting some rest so they can work more efficiently.
