Here's an important one they missed: On page 81, same as the bamboo frame, there is a patent for a spring-loaded Valve by George H. F. Schraeder.

Enhanced Stations Initiative comes to Five Metro-North Stations in Early 2018 by Tervia in nycrail

ESI for most Metro North/LIRR stations makes no sense. They were almost all rebuilt with high level platforms less than 50 years ago.

edit: gotta get them $2M usb ports...

Mozilla's legacy extensions still work because they're hardcoded into Firefox by redditthinks in firefox

[–]doodle77 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There is one: go to about:config and change extensions.legacy.enabled to true.

Most legacy extensions are broken on 57+ because of changes they've made to the chrome. They could be updated, but since AMO doesn't take legacy extensions anymore they aren't updating them.

Mozilla's legacy extensions still work because they're hardcoded into Firefox by redditthinks in firefox

[–]doodle77 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The reason Mozilla wanted to get rid of legacy ('overlay') extensions had nothing to with actually removing the overlay functionality, which is used for several Firefox components. They wanted to get rid of them because every time a change is made to Firefox's code and chrome document structure, every extension which depends on it breaks. Legacy extensions can also break the browser or cause major slowdowns through poor design. That is why the first questions asked when reporting bugs are "Does it happen in Safe Mode (add-ons disabled)?" and "Does it happen with a new profile?"

Since they poured LZ-2 after they had added the radar reflective paint to LZ-1, maybe they embedded the radar reflection in the concrete this time to reduce wear.

Our professor just emailed us today after taking the final yesterday. by thetruenoob in EngineeringStudents

It wasn't that they weren't able to draw a correct free body diagram, it's that they misinterpreted/misread the problem statement and thought it was giving external forces when it was giving reaction forces. This is a problem of reading comprehension, not ability to draw free body diagrams of things you understand.

What determines the number of turns needed for a transformer? by Singdoubtripdoubsing in ElectricalEngineering

[–]doodle77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want the correct amount of magnetizing inductance, as this determines the no-load reactive current and the power factor. For 1A magnetizing current on this transformer core you need about 200 turns on the primary. You need to make sure that the magnetic flux in the core remains below the level at which the core saturates. You also want the windings to be well-coupled. Having more turns means more resistance for the same amount of copper.

They made them way larger than they needed to. The stations have full-length mezzanines which are always empty. They're much wider than old stations which means more work supporting the street.

De Blasio opposes MTA budget over missing subway repair funds by Bullingdon1973 in nyc

[–]doodle77 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cuomo: The subways are failing! Let's do my $500M Action Plan! The city just needs to pay half.

Deblasio: How about cutting $250M of waste. You just spent $250M on pretty lights for bridges that could have gone to fixing the subway.

Cuomo: Looks like we're gonna have a budget crisis unless the city pays up, folks!
