He claimed it’s for “administrative costs” but he was vague & I doubt it. He only made visuals/charts but these girls did most of the work. Is this fair? How should she address this? The conference ends this Friday.

Also I just found out that this prof doesn't know how to use Python or other programs...he plagiarized my sister's codes and is using them in his courses. He also didn't give them credit as authors even though they did the research for his publications.
-
He's obviously a major profiteering guy, and he should have kept 0 of the price, as his own funding covers for any expenses. Unfortunately, if your sister isn't willing to get in a long and hopeless fight, there isn't much she can do about the prize. She

could try talking to the professor of that lab, or to HR, but usually they just protect that kind of guy. As for the palgiarized code and stolen research, she can put the code on open access somewhere so that the malpractice is clear in case HR does something;

for the stolen research, she could contact the journal direclty. There's a good chance they'd be willing to correct the author list.

(but they will ask for consent to the other authors, so there'll be an ugly fight again, with unknown consequences) One thing that could work is reaching out to ex students who work for that guy. If they all have similar stories, it will count for something!
-
That's good to know. Thank you so much! I'm pretty sure other students have experienced similar things. :/
-
Yep, that kind of guy just continue as long as they get away with it. His behavior is egregious, so no doubt he's "practiced" on other people.
