What do we know about @anthronw Anthro Northwest? The answer: not that much, but it smells off.
I should be doing homework, but instead let me try to compile a thorough, properly sourced thread to follow:

Firstly: this is a con with a PG rating, labeling itself as “anthropomorphic arts” rather than “furry”. Those of you who’ve been around long enough to remember the Burned Fur debacle may be shaking your heads already

As a concept, I have no issue with this. If people want a PG con experience they’ve got every right to put one on! No problems here, though the undertones in wording ring a few concerning bells

Here’s where the first “yeah we got us a problem” bell rings for me: the organizers are orthodox and evangelical Christians, and the con chair gives some shady non-denials on his views on LGBT people:https://twitter.com/imhkr/status/783033775642906624 …

Oh look, another “WHOA BUDDY THERE’S A PROBLEM HERE” bell. The con is registered as “for profit”, highly unusual for furry conventions.https://twitter.com/liondogari/status/929043751367880704 …

but it gets stranger. One of Anthro Northwest’s board members was responsible for “Doxacon”, an Orthodox Christian outreach program in the form of a science fiction conventionhttps://twitter.com/goodpuppuddles/status/929048125582409730 …

Puddles (MoistFF) @GoodPupPuddlesReplying to @liondogari @xanie and 2 othersSo interestingly one of the board members is on the agents of another non profit. The “Christian Gaming and Unconventional Faith Outreach” organization. That puts on Doxacon - Exploring faith thru science fiction. This all smells like a Christian Outreach honeypot/money maker.2 replies 19 retweets 61 likes -

I haven’t even gotten to the weirdest bit of this yet though. While giving attendees NO PRIOR WARNING UNTIL THE DAY OF THE CON, Anthro Northwest’s staff invited the producers of a CNN reality tv documentary to film at the con.https://twitter.com/anthronw/status/929163701181181952 …

This weirds me out, and is super sus. I've been hearing rumblings of people saying they're going to film for a tv show for weeks now. Pretty crummy to know they've know for awhile, and the con has been silent. I feel like some people would have just opt-out of the con completely.

So I'm here, and it seems like the show is focusing on a few individuals who agreed to do the show before the con, Not the entire con in general. My understanding is people may just be in the background, hence the release.

My impressions so far: there are TONS of kids and their parents here, which is great. It definitely has a PG family friendly feel which is fine. The potentially anti LGBT sentiment is concerning, but so far the con has been enjoyable.

I think it's okay to have different "types" of cons and the adults bringing their kids feel like it's a safe space and are more okay with their kids being furries which hopefully will remove a lot of shame and stigmas for the next generation of furries.
