- Hermione: Yeah...
- Sirius: That was very irresponsible!

a harry potter au where everything is exactly the same except harry’s glasses have transition lenses
now i come to actually think about it, it is kinda weird that other than snape, we never really hear about lily’s hogwarts friends
maybe she was actually really lonely? with snape being so possessive, i wouldnt be surprised if he actually had tried to stop people from getting close to her
also since she was muggleborn she might have been very ostracised ( i have no idea if this an actual english word but bear with me )
That’s a good question. It tends to be assumed that they all died or otherwise became unavailable (ie Alice; or moved out of the country), but those are both very plausible points.
Thinking in particular of the way comparisons are often drawn between Lily and Hermione. Hermione’s background and attitude isolated her initially, until she became friends with Harry and Ron. Even then, it is not until the DA that we really start to see her interacting with other students, let alone forming actual friendships.
Lily would have had it much harder, going through Hogwarts during the First War when anti-muggleborn sentiments would have been more open. Having Severus as a friend would have only exacerbated the problem. Not only is he shown to be quite possessive - likely discouraging both Lily and other students from forming friendships with her - but the greater House rivalry would have caused her Housemates to look down on her.
From this, it is quite believable that she had acquaintances, but few true friends who would have thought to look in on Harry.
I agree with all this. I also think that once she was out of that isolation, she probably would have become really decent friends with the other Marauders. I’ve always thought that Remus and Lily shared a close friendship from the get-go, as he wouldn’t have harassed her as badly as the other Marauders.
I’m still angry that we don’t know shit about Lily and James (a little more about James, to be fair). I feel like that’s important backstory stuff, but what do I know? I’m not the one who’s made billions off a book series.
having best stuff first makes it so a lot of content creators’ edits and gifs get buried by other posts, so if you want to see your dashboard in… you know… chronological order (still don’t understand why social media keeps thinking we want anything but that) make sure you go:
settings > global settings > dashboard preferences > turn ‘best stuff first’ off.
Casual reminder that Snape did not start hanging out with Death Eaters because Lily ended the friendship. Lily ended the friendship because Snape started hanging out with Death Eaters.
