I feel really insulted that the staff lady asked me TWICE if I needed an English menu and then busted out a calculator to show me the price.

The other day the lady at a confectionary counter had a *long* convo with my (fluent) kid about her purchase, then still whipped out the
calculator.
I think to some degree it's reflex?!
but I do, very, very much, understand your frustration!

Oh I get the calculator always at the hair salon and thought it was for everyone ...next time I'll double check

No it's good , they are actually friends of mine so next time I'll ask them who gets the calculator

I haven't been calculatored for a while. Not in Saitama. Only in gift shops !

I find it much more prevalent in areas that receive many tourists. I think it's helpful for tourists!
