1) Beginner's driver sign in japan is mandatory, yet they account for a low fraction of mortal accident.... I am OK with that...
-
-
-
2) on the other hand Senior's driver is optional, but they are involved in more than 50% of mortal accidents. I don't see the logic there
-
I thought senior sticker is optional for 70+ and mandatory for 75+.
-
Oh, really? ... I'll check later.
-
Ah I looked further. In Tokyo they encourage use but there is no penalty if not displayed. http://www.keishicho.metro.tokyo.jp/smph/kotsu/mark/mark.html …
-
Thanks. There is a government policy to disuade senior's from driving, but rules should be the same regardless of age, sex or nationality.

Am I the only one here who finds this deeply offensive?
-
What's worse is I think they only put on cars with non-Asian drivers. That whole parking lot was full of Asian tourists but only one magnet.
-
And I can't confirm it was their car, but there was only one non-Asian couple there.
-
It's because some of drivers forget (or refuse) to put it on their cars.
-
I'd damn well refuse to put it on my car.

Lol, I remember seeing that there!
-
Not on your car I hope!
-
Nah, because Isa drove. I got worked up at first glance of that but then took a positive take on it.
-
At the least maybe it will help prevent road rage at tourists being lost and clueless about road rules.
-
That's exactly it, locals to be forgiving to clueless tourist who don't know the rules.
-
that's a nice heads up to local drivers that the person in front of you might not run the next red light

Saw this on a few cars in Okinawa earlier this spring. It certainly explained *some* of the insane things on the road we saw there...
-
Haha yeah Okinawans are so laid back whenever we saw someone driving crazy we figured it might be a tourist!

Rental car perhaps? Did the plate start with わ?
-
Yeah I think they'd only put these on cars rented by foreigners! Japanese people wouldn't want it on their rental cars!
