Unsure what to think when someone lowkey brags about being so fluent but then says a phone call was a big accomplishment.

Yeah I get that but then I wouldn't consider myself fluent if a phone call was still a milestone...
I once made a vet appointment for Kit and they asked my name and I said “it’s Micaela” and they were like “not the pet, I need your name.”

Haaaaa. I guess they assumed you were Japanese? That happened calling HIS to me once, only we were both foreigners (the staff was Taiwanese)

It was one of those moments where I was like “yes! This call is going really well!” And then that happened and we both spiraled into “e?”

I started beginning my calls with 「外国人ですけど」and that made things smoother.

I find once they know you’re a foreigner they get all awkward and weird though. That’s why I have such phone anxiety. Haha.
