If Congress sticks with the life + 70 years copyright law, Disney will soon start to lose copyrights over its many properties. Books and films created in the 1920's can come into the public domain, and in another ten years books and films from the 1930's, and so on. Will Congress extend the law to life + 90 years? Let's hope not, because the Church of Scientology (CoS) faces copyright loss in about 39 years. There's not presently a Scientologist-ally in Congress like Sonny Bono, who in 1998 won the battle to extend copyright from life + 50 to life + 70 years. But Disney, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and others will likely lobby hard to extend their copyright monopolies.

Hubbard died in 1986, and 1986+70=2056, and he is supposedly "Source" with no later alterations considered "Tech." Therefore, a baby born this year to a Scientologist couple will see the loss of key Scientology book copyrights before the age of 40. Probably Scientology will be a dim memory to all but a few bitter-enders, and I would be VERY old by then. But I would enjoy seeing the CoS copyrights expire.

In Scientology there is a session, call it a pre-session, done with a person before they start auditing. In that session they are asked the question, which I am quoting from memory so the wording here may not be exact. They ask, 'Is it alright with you if we find out everything about you?' I presume if the prospective auditing service taker says, 'no,' they don't go any further up 'The Bridge TM.'

Speculating that Mark Rathbun is now back in some sort of good standing with the official Scientology organization, it is likely that he has gone through some kind of debriefing, and the Scientology organization knows everything about Mark Rathbun during his time away from the official organization, including any and all information he was privy to during that time period.

I have no inside information about the Scientology organization so the above is my guess.

Scientology exists week to week. It's very difficult for that organization to engage in anything long term because of its seven day loop. I think one of the results of that is the organization undergoes rapid changes. Those changes involve some operating procedures, language shift, personnel turnovers, plans, projects and programs. An analogy would be a fruit fly hive. Again this is my take.

In saying the above I am setting this up. I was away from Scientology and went back, which is what I think Mark Rathbun has done. If he has gone back I have no idea what his role (hat/post/product/stat) would be in the organization now. I experienced major culture shock when I went back to Scientology, because of all the changes that had happened since I had gone away from it. I expect that if Mark Rathbun has gone back he is very likely going through culture shock as I did.

One major difference is that when I was away from Scientology but not out of it, I did not engage in any critical activity, as I still felt supportive. (That didn't stop the organization from engaging in fair game against me.) I again speculate, if Mark has gone back to the organization, he most likely lives under a closer watch by the office of special affairs, that is to say, much less privacy than while he was away.

Mariette grew up on Sweden’s southwest coast in Halmstad. She became involved in Scientology after graduating the Swedish equivalent of high school around 1978. Malnutrition runs rampantly and invisibly in Scientology. First, most people working outside the sea org for the organization can't afford sufficient food. Second, L. Ron Hubbard decided he was an expert on nutrition and wrote a large amount of scriptural tech on it. People involved in Scientology don't talk much about L. A high-stress long-hours job, and poor pay leading to cheap high-carb food, can make it it very hard to control one' weight. I hope the ladies get out.

Thanks, Wieber. With WorldCar, any library where you ask for those books, can now quickly order them for that library, or tell you what library holds them. It will pop up on any search on WorldCat for "Scientology". Much better than Googling "books on Scientology" or the books' names. And MUCH better than the old days, where the books had to show up in book reviews or a printed list of published books.
