Biography

Alumnus Junius Ho is a top name in law who has achieved great success in his home country of Hong Kong and was the Past President of the Law Society in 2011. He is a senior partner of K C Ho & Fong and also the head of its litigation and commercial practice. He is also establishing his arbitration practice in mainland China. He is also the Principal Representative of the Guangzhou Office.

Having studied at the Chelmer Institute of Higher Education (now Anglia Ruskin University) in the United Kingdom, Junius obtained his Bachelor of Law's degree in 1984. He then joined the University of Hong Kong for the Post-graduate Certificate in Laws study and was admitted as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 1988. He was subsequently admitted in Singapore and England and Wales in 1995 and 1997, respectively. In 2003, he was appointed as a China-Appointed Attesting Officer by the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China.

Junius previously served as a member of the Costs Committee of Judiciary in Hong Kong between 2005 to 2012 and the Lord Wilson Heritage Trusts as Council Members and Trustee between 2003 to 2011. He has over twenty years of legal experience and is committed to serving the community and contributing to business and economic cooperation between Hong Kong and mainland China through the set up of mentoring, joint initiatives and collaborative projects.

In 2009, Junius successfully applied to the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China to set up an association with a law firm in Guangdong, a province on China's southern coast. This created one of the foremost official association firms for closer working between legal practitioners in Hong Kong and China.

After having served the Law Society Council for 16 years, he was elected as the President of the Law Society in 2011/2012 and led the Council forward to champions on various issues whether politically or professionally. He is now still served as a Council Member of the Law Society of Hong Kong, he actively participates in its current affairs and many practice related events. He is also a keen supporter of the Society's social activities, including the annual Trail Walk, a 100km walk supporting various charities including Oxfam. He promotes law as the framework within which society operates, regulating almost all aspects of our lives. Apart from serving his own legal profession, he also sits on various government and advisory boards focusing on commerce, trade, investment, transport, rural, environmental and heritage conservation affairs and projects.

Since 2011, Junius has been elected to be the Chairman of Tuen Mun Rural Committee and sitting as a district councillor of Tuen Mun District Council. As such, he is vocal in various significant social issues. In 2014, he has been repeatedly reported in the press for his involvement and views such as citing the government's policy about the mishandling of the problem relating to the illegal structures in Hong Kong; he is also a strong advocate for promoting plasma gasification as the new technology for tackling the domestic waste problem in Hong Kong. Junius advocates strongly to safeguard of the indigenous and constitutional rights of the New Territories people under the purview of Basic Law. While fighting for democratic movement, he is a staunch supporter for upholding of the rule of law. He stands firm against the 'Occupy Central' campaign and disavows civil disobedience by setting up the Protect Central Campaign.

Junius is hugely respected within the international law community and has been an outstanding ambassador for Anglia Ruskin University in Hong Kong. Our Anglia Law School is proud to be following his continuing evolution and is delighted to salute his many achievements with this special award.
