According to my teacher, poorer areas are always in northeast of the city as evil comes from that direction so no-one wants to live there

Kozukappara is a reason for being undesirable, but its location was purely pragmatic, it was outside of Edo and on a major highway.

So the highway. Do you know about other cities? Not just execution grounds? I imagine if poor live there, many undesirable locations also

Sure! Kyōto (Heian-Kyō) is a good example. I've noticed it in other castle towns, like Matsumoto. Kumamoto Castle still has its Kimon Gate
