How to Use the Steam Menu in Uplay-Purchased Games!
FOREWORD: This tutorial is for games that were purchased through Uplay (AKA it forced you to), not Steam. Any Uplay games bought through Steam automatically have this functionality.

If you don't really care about getting the Steam overlay in Uplay games, then this tutorial can be ignored.

As many of you know, Uplay does not use .exe files to launch their games, but rather through custom URL targeting.

I have found a way to move around this via the Steam app being able to use Uplay itself as a "non-Steam game". The only catch is, you can only do this for 1 Uplay title at a time, so use it wisely!

A quick question that should be answered:

Q: Why should I do this?

A: This way, you can talk to your Steam friends from within a Uplay game, access your music library, do a Steam-stream, access their in-game web browser, ect.

Now for the step-by-step instructions.

  1. Maneuver to your games library and add Uplay as a custom game by going to the lower lefthand corner of the steam browser and click:

"+ ADD A GAME" > "Add a Non-Steam Game" > Find Uplay and check the box > "ADD SELECTED PROGRAMS"

  2. Now move over to the shortcut of the game you want to add, and right-click on it, then:

"Properties" > "Web Document" tab > Copy the content of the "URL:" box.

The url should look similar to this: "uplay://launch/420/0" (This is Far Cry 4's code, btw.)

  3. Now move back to Steam, and go to the Uplay shortcut in your library, right-click and:

"Properties" > Go to the end of the "Target:" box and paste it in, with quotations around it. Do not modify the "Start in:" box.

Example "Target:" box (Far Cry 4):
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe" "uplay://launch/420/0"

More of a visual learner? Check out my tutorial video about it below:

Apologies for ♥♥♥♥♥ mic quality, I can assure you my voice is not that high-pitched in reality.

Still not working? Make sure FRAPS or other similar framerate monitors are disabled.

Weird. Usually all Unity shortcuts show a game ID when you go to their properties.
It doesn't work with Splinter Cell Blacklist
THE TENTH, check out the tutorial video, see if a visual guide may point out a possible mistake you made. Also, check the comments section of the video and see what they're saying about the subject.

Already triple checked both tutorials (text and video) and every comment on YouTube and in here. No mistakes and no results.

I don't know if it's the same with other Ubisoft games, but this is what happens with Blacklist:

- I launch the game from my Steam Library
- While Uplay logs in and looks for updates, my Steam icon becomes green, my status is "In-Game" and everything looks fine
- Uplay shuts down the game process for an instant, open a little black DOS-like window to do God knows what and restart the game
- Steam doesn't see me in-game anymore and thus no Steam overlay

That's interesting, and by interesting I mean frustrating. I've never heard of anyone else having this issue, which is weird. I'll keep digging, see what I can find. In the meantime, double check you have any recording software disabled, such as FRAPS, ShadowPlay, etc.
Ever since Uplay's recent overall update to the look and function, since the Club bit basically, I haven't been able to apply any games as non steam normally. And anything I had prior ( Far cry 4, Black Flag, Revelations etc ) all stopped functioning and all put me back to online status just before the game took off. It is indeed irritating, down right infuriating once you've exhausted multiple ways to get them to work; this being one. I've tried xml files, and I've now tried this with the uplay app way, and with the game and it's code together at once just for the hell of it. If I manage it some how, I will report back. If anyone finds a way in the meantime, I'd gladly like to hear it, eh?
