Summary:

Choose your death and I’ll tell you the future.

What a beautiful, and heartbreaking, tribute to Carrie.

Ugh, I’m sorry y’all. That…burst of creative energy I was expecting isn’t here. “Fade to Red” isn’t happening any time in the foreseeable future I’M SORRY.

A “Legacy of Mandalore” snippet on the usual themes…

It’s the same in every galaxy, once you’ve grown. Here is what mothers say:

     1)      Your father loves you.

     2)      Go.

Go. Stop you? No. Here, I’ve made some fresh bread. I have a little money put away, you take it. Yes, I’m terrified. I don’t know what will happen to you out there. But I know for sure what will happen if you stay here: You’ll shrivel up, caged, angry, pacing like a nexu. Your spirit is too big for this place, you can fill the spaces between all those stars. Go quickly before your father gets back.

Hera’s mother died before she was old enough for this ritual, so she left home with only curses to speed her along. It made things harder.

She doesn’t have any babies, and although that chance is still within the bare rim of possibility, she likely never will. But she does have these brilliant kids to call her own, and every day she tries to remember the lesson she never got:

Here’s the map. Don’t forget the supply depot. You know all our contacts. I’ll teach you to fly so well you won’t need me. I can’t keep you safe out there, but I can’t keep you safe here either, so you go as far and as fast as you need. I trust you. Trust yourself.

Here is what mothers never do: Lose their nerve in front of their kids. Cry, “Don’t leave me, please don’t leave. What am I without you?”

When Kanan and Ezra return from Krownest without Sabine, Hera closes her eyes and thinks with all her might: Fly, bird, fly.

Are head coverings for female Twi'leks a cultural trait or just a fashion style? I can't think of ever seeing a lady Twi'lek without one but the males never wear one.

A

I’m not sure if it’s canon or just fanon, but yeah, a lot of us have noticed that too. I tend to assume that there’s some kind of cultural significance to the head coverings.

Found a book that summarizes literature and literary figures in text form, and the Byron one might be the best thing to ever happen.

I’ve seen posts joking about how hard it must be to guess what internet culture is next going to find funny. As if to prove the point, here we see tumblr taking a break from Cask of Amontillado references to return to its intermittent habit of dragging Lord Byron.

Good luck, viral advertisers!

Excited to hear you're going to tackle season 3 but also admit some surprise. I actually thought you'd stopped writing since Kanan being blind might limit your writing. Not that there's not plenty of sex to be had with a blind character, only that I can imagine it would be more difficult to write multiple times. The chapter for Twilight of the Apprentice Part Two was wonderful; I'm curious as to the challenge of writing multiple blind intimacy encounters. But wishing you the best, good luck!

A

Nooooo that’s not the reason at all, I promise! Kanan being blind is sort of a interesting thing to do justice to in writing. I like the way it makes other senses more important.

The truth is that I’ve gotten super, super into SWTOR RP. Like I’ve joined a guild and I have this whole…other imaginary life going on basically. It turns out I can only handle one intense imaginary life at a time, in addition to my real one of course. If I gave up the real one then I could probably be obsessed with SWR and SWTOR at the same time, but also I’d be living under a bridge or something and I hear that negatively affects one’s internet connection speeds, so that’s kind of a nonstarter.

Calling the James Thurber Fandom

So my son! The one you remember from such masterpieces as Ezra vs. the Rancor!

Yeah. Our latest read-aloud bedtime story was The 13 Clocks by James Thurber, because Neil Gaiman recommended the fuck out of it, and holy shit y’all.

Firstly, it was hella fun to read out loud. I mean seriously. I read the kids stuff mostly every night and it’s usually good stuff, right? But repetitive. They have their favorites. Maurice Sendak. Jane Yolen. Mo Williams. We do the same stuff over and over. Reading 13 Clocks… it was new for me too, and it was so fun to read. Stuff like:

“I can do a score of things that can’t be done,” the Golux said. “I can find a thing I cannot see and see a thing I cannot find. The first is time, the second is a spot before my eyes. I can feel a thing I cannot touch and touch a thing I cannot feel. The first is sad and sorry, the second is your heart. What would you do without me? Say ‘nothing.’”

“Nothing,” said the Prince.

“Good. Then you’re helpless and I’ll help you.”

And secondly? My 9-yr-old son. Is now obsessed. He wants to make a 13 Clocks board game. He’s been consulting with me on the design and here’s a few sample conversations:

Robin: “The goal is to reach Saralinda on top of the tower and at the end you face the Duke! And if you win you marry Saralinda.”

Me: “Cool but, have you ever thought, what if Saralinda didn’t want to marry the winner? Like, she helps out Zorn because she actually likes him, but. What if she didn’t?”

Robin: (blank stare) “She’s an NPC.”

Me: “I know, I know, but. What if she wasn’t? What if you go all that way, through all the trials, and at the end, Saralinda doesn’t want to marry you?”

Robin: “Uh…. (long pause). Well, then you still win, because, you’re good friends.”

***

Robin: “I need more PC characters. Not just Zorn. ..Mom? Who do you think is a good PC?”

Me: “Hagga?”

Robin: “OOOH! That’s good! I’m thinking of a card called Tears of Hagga. It gives you points that can give you more cards.”

Me: *SPEECHLESS WITH LOVE AND ADORATION FOR MY AMAZING SON.*

Robin: “And there’s also other enemies like Hark.”

(I invite you to join me in my overwhelmed delight, James Thurber fandom, which one hundred percent exists.)

***

Robin: “How should the Todal be in my board game?”

Me: “You decide.”

Him: “I don’t know.”

Me: “Well, that’s appropriate.”

I will leave you with the initial design for the Zorn of Zorna card. Look at that sassy smirk omg:

So glad to see you back! Had us worried there for a sec :)

…Stuff is still stuff and life is still life, but. Y’all are the best <3

Q

gondalsqueen asked:

Aaaaaand now I feel guilty. You know that you don't owe the world any writing, right?

A

I do but also I LOVE YOU omg and your stories are FUCKING AMAZING. You don’t owe those to me either but I’m still grateful :D

Q

pomrania asked:

Have you started thinking of ideas for 'Fade to Red'? Any concepts you can't see yourself using, but want to set free into the fandom if someone else can?

A

That’s a GREAT question. So many fan authors have more ideas than time, and there are others with more inspiration than time… this is a VERY insightful query.

Unfortunately, no. Not yet. I’m not going to even start writing ‘Fade to Red’ until after the season is over, so. I haven’t been thinking about it much lately. But! I will keep your point in mind and try to post ideas that I don’t end up pursuing :)
