In some countries, the insurance companies are non profit and heavily regulated. Getting rid of the profit motive is the key thing.

No doubt. My brother died of cancer at 36. Despite 70% health cover and thousands in donations he died in debt.

Thx. my brother had all the treatment a man could survive, but despite massive amounts of charity still ended up in crushing debt.

I'm so sorry. A friend of mine passed in her early 30s to cancer, uninsured, died in debt. This shouldn't happen.

As a Brit, I can't even comprehend how this has come to be the normal state of healthcare in the US.

I grew up in the UK, live in the US. Don't have insurance (thankfully, my 3yo is on Medicaid). It's baffling in the land of the "free".

For the record, have signed up to the ACA- twice, but had to stop paying bc it was unaffordable.
