About this project
The inception of my company started 5 years ago in my garage. It was just me, my tools and some beer. I lay on my broken futon staring up at the sky. At that moment, I realized I had a big hole in the ceiling of my garage that needed fixing. With nothing better to do, I decided to go into work.
At work is where I do my best non work-related thinking. I had some profound thoughts, but nothing was quite right.
"If I were a famous actor with lots of money, could I get the public to pay me to make a movie and then pay again to see it?" Nah, that’s nonsense.
"I wonder if I could design a ring and convince people that it has magical controlling powers. I’d collect money from lots of people but then just mail each of them a giant washer." Ridiculous. No one would buy that.
"I should create some amazing new kind of technology that no one really needs and that likely overcomplicates a simple process. I’ll make a video of it that looks amazing. I’ll collect lots of money, send weekly updates for 1 month, then scale back to quarterly updates. I’ll say things like “manufacturing issues” a lot. Then in two years’ time I’ll just disappear." That could work.
But I realized, I don’t have some new kind of technology to peddle. I still use the cable remote to change channels and the tv remote to adjust the volume.
Then it hit me. after I spilled some coffee on a lousy t-shirt I received from some random project I funded. I realized then and there, why not cut out the middle man? Just send people what they really want...a lousy t-shirt about backing a Kickstarter.
Added plus: if you turn it inside out, it doubles as another t-shirt.
Risks and challenges
My main obstacle is my children. They are terrible sleepers and they wake me up quite a bit. Most of the time I'm tired.
Also, my wife is a challenge. She thinks this isn't funny and a waste of my time.
