On one side of Nagoya-ko they've built a entertainment complex/tourist trap/general place of weirdness, kind of our own little miniature version of Tokyo's Odaiba. Here are some pictures from my trip last weekend:

Part of the port has been turned into a fake Italian village to lure the kind of people who would spend money in a fake Italian village, which judging by the size of the crowds is quite a lot of people.

Michelangelo's David stands in front of a cathedral in the Nagoya Italian village. I've seen the real David and I like the Nagoya version better.

A piazza in the Italian village. I stopped here and had some gelato. I was surprised and impressed. It was the first really good gelato I've had outside of Italy.

The Nagoya Aquarium is in a really cool building, possibly built by Venusians.

The Nagoya Maritime Building, across a small channel from the aquarium, houses a museum dedicated to Nagoya's seafaring past, plus some offices. It might also have been built by Venusians, probably as a watch-tower against Neptunian attack.

I, for one, welcome our new space penguin overlords. |
