Hi, welcome to moderating, I hope you enjoy it! =)

That said, one part of being a moderator is showcasing the standards you want your community to follow. I am always supportive of mods who remove incivility, personal attacks and bullying, and stalking/other abuse, and like our reddiquette says, it's important to treat each other with respect. However, that starts with you; saying things like "You bawling entitled brats", "Sorry chump", telling your users to grow up or grab some tampons, all of this tells your users that this is either a sub where personal attacks and incivility are allowed after all, or it tells users that this is a place where you're allowed to bully others and they can't fight back. As a mod who cares about reddit, please remember to embody the standards you want for your community.

So to become a mod you just need to spam r/iowacity for weeks?

apparently just throw a tantrum and scream "HARASSMENT! ABLEISM" and you win!

Yeah, what does this person's age and disability have to do with anything? This is just text based conversation. No one knows your age, gender or ability (unless you cry about it in every thread). It's not relevant to how you conduct yourself on Reddit, so why does she keep bringing it up. I'm getting major psycho/victim-complex vibes.

I would assume she continue to bring it up because it is a very large part of her identity. When something like that becomes part of your identity, it apparently is necessary to bring it up at every turn. Kind of like how people who do CrossFit always have to tell you in their first sentence that they do CrossFit. When you get to know them, they don't bring up CrossFit every other sentence because they don't feel like they have to prove or justify their identity to you. But to everyone else it's a first priority to telling others who they are.

Yeah, I can see that but she isn't just mentioning it in conversation. She's using it like a weapon and claiming she is being witch hunted and discriminated against whenever she is downvoted or someone simply disagrees with her. She claimed she was being bullied for her age and disability because she was getting downvotes in the laundromat thread and then blamed the mod for not protecting her from the downvotes, like that's somehow his job...yikes.

Oh oh, I totally agree. I have seen exactly what you're talking about. I just meant that she probably brings it up all the time even in normal conversation because it's that ingrained in her identity and what probably takes up a lot of her headspace, so naturally she's going to make it a part of the conversation whether it's in casual chitchat, or to weaponize it.

Yeah this sounds like "Welcome to r/IowaCity. Now get out!"

It's okay. It's not like r/IowaCity is going to turn into r/Seattle /s

I miss u/scsoc as moderator. Can you bring him back?

I mean how good of a mod could have been if he just handed her the sub?

At some point I don't think it matters how good of a mod somebody is or is not, there comes a point when the annoyance of the loud minority is just not worth it. Like a month ago I left Facebook. I had the intention of going back to it, but I realize that the loud minority was an energy sucker and I just wasn't interested in it anymore. I realized that I was scrolling forever and reading the same back and forth bickering, and then stop myself and think "oh my God, why am I still here?" It wasn't even like I felt like everyone was being negative, or whatever nonsense people complain about these days. It just wasn't worth the use of my time anymore.

I'm not the old mod, but I would bet he probably feels the same.

There will be no harassment, bullying, stalking or abuse of others allowed on this sub.

You definitely dug up someone else's post history in other subreddits to belittle him. This was you:

You posting about another guy's raw dick, the taste of chew and bucks chasing does any better? Find your own people to mix with. We're good here, thanks for visiting.

I thought it was funny how that was her response to being called out for spamming this sub

"hey! But you commented these things in many relevant subreddits over the course of several years"

Can we have no spamming?
