Brienne of Tarth only recognises the one true King: Renly Baratheon.

I don't like Stannis. He was right when he said he was the one true King though because of the line of succession.

Honest question: If Ned Stark can claim someone his bastard, and Roose Bolton can grant a bastard his name, why couldn't Robert Baratheon claim his heirs by law even if they are not by blood?

Robert had but one love and rather than sire a child by blood and by law he choose to sire blood without law and law without blood. Had his wishes been kept, the realm would have been preserved.

Guess what I'm saying is Ned had no right to alter Robert's words on his deathbed. It was his own open treason that lead to his death and the War of the Kings.

Yeah that was where things got tricky. Robert did name Joffrey his heir, but him being a bastard was not known to him. Robert was duped so that document could very easily be considered illegitimate (in any case, Cersei ripped it up).

Stannis, as Prince of Dragonstone and rightful blood heir to Robert, was right in his claim.

For me it's gotten to the point where if I see something anti-trump on reddit I assume it's an over reaction of sorts, or purposefully misleading.

The annoying part is I personally want to see him removed from office, however when I see shit like this on reddit with almost 36K in karma I start wondering is there anything that he is doing that is actually negetively affecting America? If this is the most talked about thing?

I want to see his policies and actions in a non-biased informative area. I don't want to see this petty stupid shit.

I don't care about golf, ice cream, handshakes, gif posting, twitter, etc....

That honestly looks like a pretty honest and innocent mistake to me. Like she was reaching for Melania because her husband was shaking Donald's hand. That kind of thing happens to me a lot, too.

This is fake news. Immediately after shaking Melania’s hand, she shook Trump’s hand. The person who made the GIF cut it off too early to make a political point.

Learned in another thread: apparently in Poland, men do not shake the hands of women when meeting them.

Which you just know was a bullet point on a sheet that Trump did not read.

Edit 3,800 upvotes later and I'm pretty sure every single one of us is wrong.

I posted this on my way into work without knowing the whole thing. This doesn't deserve to be in the news cycle anyway- this isn't anything that matters. The real news is Trump meeting with Putin and the Republicans on the warpath to remove the health insurance of millions of Americans.

You weren't kidding.

Etiquette

Some men, particularly older men, may kiss a woman's hand when greeting or saying goodbye. Kissing a woman's hand is considered to be chivalrous by some, but is more and more often seen as outdated. Handshakes are quite common; however, it is very important to remember that men should not offer their hand to a woman - a handshake is only considered polite if the woman offers her hand to the man first. For a more heartfelt greeting or goodbye, close friends of opposite sex or two women will hug and kiss three times, alternating cheeks.

Its clear that most people here never watched the actual live coverage of this, because not only did she shake his hand literally right after this gif ends, but the Polish president had nothing but kind words for Trump.

In fact even the Polish President Andrzej Duda tweeted out:

Contrary to some surprising reports my wife did shake hands with Mrs. and Mr. Trump @POTUS after a great visit. Let's FIGHT FAKE NEWS.

Reddit's desperate need to feel schadenfreude over Trump is now limiting it to reducing entire meetings where both parties assure each other of their mutual agreements and commitments into a minor body language miscommunication, just so it could circlejerk. And it does this over and over again with Trump, taking a short gif or a screenshot out of context and painting a narrative that Reddit wants to believe.

Just two days ago there was a /r/gifs thread with 128K upvotes on top of the front page all day of Buzz Aldrin making weird faces of physical discomfort next to Trump, and the same gif was spread all over Reddit. The narrative was that Buzz was disgusted by Trump's words and rebuking Trump. This was at a signing for an EO that reinstitutes the National Space Council, a move that Buzz Aldrin strongly supports. He flew all the way to Washington just so he could be at the signing.

If you watch the actual video of the Executive Order signing you will see that he is in obvious physical discomfort and makes weird faces the entire time, even when Trump isn't speaking and he made the same faces when other speakers spoke. He had to lean against the table and speaking stand later on because it was difficult for him to stand. He's 87 years old, recently had to be medically hospitalized.

Buzz Aldrin is a Republican and has praised Trump for months and he literally said that Trump would be "very good for space exploration"

http://www.cnbc.com/video/2016/11/14/buzz-aldrin-trump-will-be-very-good-for-space-exploration.html

On his official Twitter he was very happy with after the event.

What's most frustrating is that bringing back the National Space Countil is something that Reddit would wildly be praising with thousands of comments in multiple threads on top of the front page if done by anyone but Trump. If Bernie had won and brought it back, all of Reddit would know it happened from all the news/politics subs, and there would be a /r/pics thread with Bernie riding a rocket with the title "Bernie is gonna take us to Mars!" with 200k upvotes. Barrack Obama promised he would do this back when he was campaigning in 2008 and never did.

Yet most people on the site have no idea it even happened. Instead Reddit essentially was taking advantage of an old man's physical deterioration and discomfort just so it could promote a narrative that he hates Trump and what Trump is doing based on a 5 second gif, a narrative completely devoid of reality.

Edit: Added Duda tweet announcement.

As a Brit looking in to American politics, there are many things Trump does that I personally disagree with, many that I don't.

But witnessing how the Reddit anti-Trump brigade here will do anything to paint The President in a bad light to the masses, a lot of the time leaving out or even twisting context, I just find it incredibly sad. And I can't believe how they can't see their lies are damaging their credibility.

As a Canadian looking into American politics, it's obvious both sides are willing to paint a narrative that fits their agenda. Let's not pretend Reddit is entirely anti-Trump when we just saw r/all bombarded with anti-CNN memes from a variety of different subs.

We saw people pushing a false fact that this Solo guy was 15 when it was proven he was 37. Just because it made CNN look worse.

Context always matters and both sides are guilty of twisting it. Either way, this is nothing and it distracts from far bigger issues. North Korea, the Putin meeting, the health care bill, the special counsel investigation... Those things deserve more focus from everyone.

Except in more formal environment it's acceptable if you're meeting that woman for the first time (like job interviews). An old custom is to kiss woman's hand, but nowadays women freak out when men try to do this.

If you're meeting a female friend you kiss her on the cheek.

The rule is that the woman must be the one to initiate the handshake. You cannot just shove your hand in front of her.

I'm just saying that Trump is known for not reading his briefings.

And that Presidents are given memos for the local decorum when traveling-- don't show the soles of your shoes; give a gift before dinner but after handshakes; don't shake women's hands etc.

There is without a doubt an unread binder on his desk on Air Force One, with a single fucking bullet point that says "don't shake women's hands."

Which, if this was anyone who deserved the benefit of the doubt, you'd say he's got better things to think about. But we know that's not the case.

Why can't women shake a man's hand?

Traditionally a man would kiss (actually just touch with his lips) a woman's hand presented to him (back of the hand held upwards). It's about respect. Some older men still do that, but the tradition almost died. Shaking hands has always been a man thing (very masculine).

Today, some women shake hands with men - usually in business settings - but they need to initiate it.

You never give your hand first to people older than you, to your superiors, people higher in hierarchy and women. Which, in our Polish minds makes women special (just like your superior). I think to Westerners it looks backwards.

A lot of cultural things seem given. I, for example, thought this rule was common all across Europe. Also, once, when I tried to kiss a female colleague in England on the cheeks, it quickly got awkward, thinking it was a common greeting there as well. Oops.

Apparently it's a local cultural thing. Just learned it myself this morning, so I by no means have any background on this sort of thing.

It's the sort of thing, if you were traveling abroad, that you'd learn beforehand. Or, if you're a VIP with staff, one for whom the world's media is watching 24/7, you'd have a briefing memo to tell you about beforehand.

A memo that you'd be expected to read.

Different countries have standards of etiquette. In some countries, you bow to everyone. In some, you bow AND you shake hands. In others, you shake hands EVERY MORNING with every one at your workplace. It helps to find out little things like this - just making an effort, even if you get it wrong, goes a long way.

I don't think it is the kind of things you learn before hand when traveling, BUT if you are an official representative, they inform you about the etiquette and it is your duty to learn it.

Question: If a man was in a business/professional environment and was greeting a female boss, client, etc would he still not offer to shake hands? Like first meeting someone at a job interview. Would this change for Eastern Europeans abroad?

Short answer: it's complicated.

Long answer:

  1. If the woman offers the hand first, you'd better take it.

  2. If you offer the hand first and she hesitates, you should smile and keep cool but go on and shake it.

  3. If you offer the hand first and she refuses, you should probably apologize and make a light-hearted joke about something innocent and move on.

Im guessing the only reason Trump didnt know this is because he doesnt read anything. Im certain it was on a memo or set of protocol within trumps reach, he probably just chose not to read it.

My wife used to work with the protocol officer for a large defense contractor when she managed their international clients. Together they planned their meetings down to the color of the place settings. This wasn't to stoke egos but rather to avoid them. Basically they worked hard to make sure everything went boring. That's just at a semi-state /corporate level, not actual state department, oh shit we snubbed an ally, level.

Back on point, you'd brief the public face as to where to stand how to shake hands, what to say, etc. If there was a flub, its Trump's fault for either forgetting, ignoring, or gutting the office responsible to brief him.

“Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart —you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I’m one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you’re a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what’s going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what’s going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it’s all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don’t, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us.”

That was incredibly hard to read. I also hate that I can't tell if that's a real quote or satire.

Don't forget his articulate and well-thought out statement on cyber security:

So we had to get very, very tough on cyber and cyber warfare. It is a huge problem. I have a son—he’s 10 years old. He has computers. He is so good with these computers. It’s unbelievable. The security aspect of cyber is very, very tough. And maybe, it's hardly doable. But I will say, we are not doing the job we should be doing. But that’s true throughout our whole governmental society. We have so many things that we have to do better, Lester. And certainly cyber is one of them.

I've been practicing my cyber all morning, that shit is tough.

I would record him talking to that incoherent Miss USA contestant from a few years back.

Then play it to break serial killers who won't give up the locations of their victims.

This para is a perfect parallel for T_D. There seems to be no way that this isn't satire, and yet there's a sinking feeling in the back of your mind that it's very likely that it isn't.

You know, I hate Trump, but I also hate misleading titles and videos. I don't get anything from this video other than the fact that he had bad timing, a mistake anyone could make. We just look like assholes when we put out videos like this, because it's giving the impression she's snubbing him on purpose, which is NOT what's happening and is clear in the full version. http://time.com/4847276/donald-trump-agata-kornhauser-duda-handshake/

Same, people make fun of "alternate facts" but then lie and spread garbage about Trump all the time, even though you can still shit on him plenty just by pointing out the honest truth.

Jesus, Reddit loves circle jerking around Trumps hand shakes lol this is like the 6th one Reddit has been making a big deal about.

Nonsense. Typical liberals trying to show a snub that didn't happen.

Thanks for that. I hate Trump with a fucking passion but edits like OP's are incredibly annoying when it is clearly just trying to push a narrative.

Poland's current government is the Law and Justice Party, a right wing, populist party. Not unlike Trump. I wouldn't read much into this.

The crowd chanted "Donald Trump" and "USA" multiple times during his speech.

President Trump has something like a *70% approval rating in Poland.

Redditors have no actual power or influence over even a toilet in the real world so they LOVE passive aggressive bullshit. It's their thing so they can relate easily.

Redditors are the waitress spitting in someone's food. They're the maitre d' that acts better than people but then goes home to a shitty shared apartment.

This will surely be the end of Trump.

Dear God, the shit Reddit gets excited about, when it comes to Trump, is getting pathetic. Still isn't as stupid as bitching about two scoops of ice cream. Oh the humanity.

Guys.... I know there is a population that dislikes trump but could you pick on the mans policy instead of stuff like this that doesn't matter. The more you bring up nonsense like this the less impact your real arguments have when he makes mistakes that will actually impact your lives.

Lol, reddit proves once again that the front page is nothing but anti Trump propaganda. You folks realize at this point it's making people like me blindly support Trump for no reason other than the fact that the establishment hates him.

These comments are going to be great.

FAKE NEWS... why didn't you play the rest of the video. She shakes POTUS' hand after FLOTUS... Is this all you have? You need a life.

Breaking news. She shook his hand about 2 seconds after this gif ends.

If this is what liberals are focusing on as an example of how he's a poor leader, then it's all uphill from here. The crazy leftists should calm down. You're only making MORE people upset with your whining and guaranteeing the republicans control the house and senate for another term.

Remember the last G20 in China. Everyone got the red carpet treatment on arrival. Except Obama, when he arrived it was not red carpet. He was "forced to disembark from Air Force One through a little-used exit in the plane’s belly after no rolling staircase was provided when he landed". One Chinese official caught on video shouting: “This is our country! This is our airport!” Lol, to hear the Pols chanting USA!USA! shows that some respectability has been restored to our great nation!
