This is especially relevant in our current political climate where so many cases of racial violence are discovered afterward to be predated by the airing of extreme beliefs over the web.

I need to make an update which is that I do think Kaczynski's statement about "reserving the right" to share the user's identity can be read as a threat and thus a CNN rep has acted unethically and the network owes an apology to the user and the country. I tend to side with CNN that we are living in an increasingly dangerous culture of hate, but I have to go with my better morals here and say that intimidation like this is a very poor defense.

I think CNN announcing they "reserve the right" to release his name if he continues to act this way is nothing if not a threat to dox. That's unethical, well over the line and shouldn't be stood for. I just hope more liberal media outlets will set the bar high by calling out this unethical behavior despite siding politically, which is how it should work across the political sphere if we as a society want to be better.
