It's interesting how MAT was always accused of using new accounts for "shady" business, but when a complete demodding happened, by an absolutely fresh and clean alt, no one mentions it.

I can almost guarantee it but it's not as simple as being a shill. They likely get paid for driving traffic to sites that use certain companies that sell web advertising. Or maybe not. Maybe it's not that simple but you can guarantee that someone is making money. If not, why go to all of this trouble.

[–]imaginarycreatures 7 ポイント8 ポイント  (1子コメント)

That was kinda my thought. I know people go to stupefying lengths to gain Internet Kool Points, but this seems like way too much effort if there isn't any money involved.

No more bizarre than Reddit's endless worship of a President who spent most of his term mires in the low 40s of approval, who likely destroyed the Democratic party's future by not pursuing criminal charges against bankers and being perceived (mostly because he outright said it) as "standing between bankers and the pitchforks", who saw a total decline of nearly 25% of his party's share of the electorate. And who did almost nothing, at all, during his Presidency but force everyone to buy mostly useless health insurance.

It's partisanship. It makes people very, very stupid.

I can honestly say if you think there is a large population of "shills" on Reddit then you have a legit learning disability.

I've never even encountered a shill on Reddit and my primary hobby is arguing about random stuff on Reddit.

99.9% of the time you see a shill accusation on Reddit it's one person disagreeing with another person. I've been called a shill for:

NASA.

the NSA.

The FBI.

The CIA.

Roscosmos.

China.

Big Pharma.

The list goes on and on and on. Pretty much anytime someone is backed into a corner and can't formulate a real argument the "shill" accusations come out. The biggest red flag for a retard on the internet is if their post history contains one or more shill accusation.

Berntards have caught onto this and have started using "neoliberal" as a replacement.

TBH there is a group of long-term users who always pop up whenever there is a anti-GMO or anti-Monsanto comment. I have asked about it before and they gave a quizzical answer about Google alerts flagging it for them, but again... why would any normal person do that?

Ward is credited with the idea: "The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question, it's to post the wrong answer."[19] This refers to the observation that people are quicker to correct a wrong answer than to answer a question.

Good neoliberal politicians are ones who delegate and defer their policy positions to experts. Politicians can't be so specialized to just be an economics PhD or something; they need to be well rounded in many areas and delegate to experts in a lot of them. People like Obama/Macron/etc are/were good at doing so, as opposed to basing their policies on what riles up the populace the most for votes regardless of their basis or efficacy. That's why /r/neoliberal likes Obama.

I won't expect you to actually entertain this argument though, you'll just stick to dumbass rhetoric.

[–]pizzashill 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (9子コメント)

The neoliberal sub has a fantastic definition of neoliberal:

Neoliberalism was developed in 1938 as a response to rising totalitarianism in the forms of fascism and communism. The goal was to revive liberalism while addressing the failures of both laissez-faire capitalism and centrally planned economies. What was sketched out was a modernized liberalism with an active but minimal state to maintain free enterprise and a basic welfare.

Neoliberals understand that free-market capitalism creates unparalleled growth, opportunity, and innovation, but may fail to allocate wealth efficiently or fairly. Therefore, the state serves vital roles in correcting market failure, ensuring a minimum standard of living, and conducting monetary policy. At the same time, the state should pursue these goals with minimal interference and under the check of inclusive institutions to free it from the influence of corporations, unions, and other special interests.

We believe public policies should be evaluated on how well they achieve their goals. We strive to avoid the failures of collectivists who employ means that are fundamentally inconsistent with the egalitarian ends they seek to attain. For this reason, we support empirical, pragmatic policy grounded in economics. Neoliberals are flexible in their policy prescriptions but are unified in their support for lowering barriers on trade and immigration while also supporting a tax on carbon emissions. We do not all subscribe to a single comprehensive ideology but instead find common ground in liberal priors. Differences within our views often come down to how much redistribution is appropriate and what empirical burden is needed to justify state action.

[–]Deity_Of_Darkness 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (6子コメント)

Neoliberalism is when bureaucrats bomb third world countries for the benefit of western investors. Part of being a centrist is allowing yourself to be fooled every ten years or so by some huge lie that justifies blowing up some poor bunch of people overseas and committing a stack of war crimes. Nothing's changed since the Gulf of Tonkin incident and being gullible isn't an excuse. We know the government lies about everything and we know the media follows their lead on most of those lies, especially with respect to foreign policy. Even today most centrists came around on the Iraq War because of the blood and treasure aspect, not the morality part. There is a direct echo of the Vietnam opposition on this - liberals were not mad because we were killing hundreds of thousands of people simply to assert our will and put nationalist, independence and peasants movements in the entire region on notice, they were mad because of the escalating costs. So it has ever been, and ever will be. Fuck the centrists.

You can't prove someone is a shill but that doesn't mean they don't exist, and if you've been arguing on the internet for a while you've probably exchanged comments with someone who is getting paid to present a viewpoint, or volunteering for an organization.

But as there is no way of knowing this, you have to be retarded to accuse someone of being a shill. Luckily there is no shortage of retards on reddit.

[–]pizzashill 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (5子コメント)

Let me explain to you the real point here. Even if someone were a shill, it'd be 0% relevant.

Literally the only thing that matters is the merit of the argument.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem

Ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"[1]), short for argumentum ad hominem, is now usually understood as a logical fallacy in which an argument is rebutted by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.

This is really the point of why shill accusations of are retarded. If a Monsanto shill links a bunch of peer reviewed studies showing GMOs to be completely safe, that's just as valid as if anyone else does it.

[–]cultish_alibi 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (3子コメント)

If it were just about one argument vs another, then you might have a point, but a shill's job is to win the argument by any means, which includes using bots to downvote people, using multiple accounts, etc etc. Not to mention that failure to disclose that you are being paid to make an argument fundamentally means your argument can be called into question. It's not like shills looked at the evidence and came to their own conclusion based on the facts.

But you should know, right?

[–]pizzashill -1 ポイント0 ポイント  (2子コメント)

This argument is hilarious.

If it were just about one argument vs another, then you might have a point, but a shill's job is to win the argument by any means, which includes using bots to downvote people,

This assumes that upvotes or downvotes win or lose an argument on Reddit, that's just pants-on head retarded and another fallacy.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum

Not to mention that failure to disclose that you are being paid to make an argument fundamentally means your argument can be called into question.

No, it doesn't, because again - the only thing that matters = the facts, motive is 0% relevant, period.

It's not like shills looked at the evidence and came to their own conclusion based on the facts. But you should know, right?

Then you should have no problem winning and refuting the argument.

But you should know, right?

I wish, I'd love to get paid to dirt conspiratards on Reddit.

[–]cultish_alibi 4 ポイント5 ポイント  (0子コメント)

This assumes that upvotes or downvotes win or lose an argument on Reddit

The whole purpose of propaganda is to shift public opinion. Popularity is winning the game. It's not about being right or wrong.

No, it doesn't, because again - the only thing that matters = the facts

Not every argument can be boiled down to facts. In many cases, you have two truths that don't contradict each other, but there is a moral judgement to be made. People who are unsure will tend to trust the majority opinion of their peers, so that they don't have to think too much. Again, popularity of an argument is the winning position.

And btw, you have the word 'shill' in your username, you ilumernaty buildaburger mothafucka.

Argumentum ad populum

In argumentation theory, an argumentum ad populum (Latin for "argument to the people") is a fallacious argument that concludes that a proposition is true because many or most people believe it: "If many believe so, it is so."

This type of argument is known by several names, including appeal to the masses, appeal to belief, appeal to the majority, appeal to democracy, appeal to popularity, argument by consensus, consensus fallacy, authority of the many, bandwagon fallacy, vox populi, and in Latin as argumentum ad numerum ("appeal to the number"), fickle crowd syndrome, and consensus gentium ("agreement of the clans"). It is also the basis of a number of social phenomena, including communal reinforcement and the bandwagon effect. The Chinese proverb "three men make a tiger" concerns the same idea.

Ad hominem

Ad hominem (Latin for "to the man" or "to the person"), short for argumentum ad hominem, is now usually understood as a logical fallacy in which an argument is rebutted by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.

However, its original meaning was an argument "calculated to appeal to the person addressed more than to impartial reason"

Fallacious ad hominem reasoning is normally categorized as an informal fallacy, more precisely as a genetic fallacy, a subcategory of fallacies of irrelevance.

However, in some cases, ad hominem attacks can be non-fallacious; i.e., if the attack on the character of the person is directly tackling the argument itself. For example, if the truth of the argument relies on the truthfulness of the person making the argument—rather than known facts—then pointing out that the person has previously lied is not a fallacious argument.

Joshua Ryne Goldberg

Joshua Ryne Goldberg (born 1994 or 1995) is an American internet troll, who was arrested by the U.S. government for allegedly distributing information about bomb-making techniques as part of an attempt to incite acts of Islamist terrorism on the 14th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. He reportedly did this by posing as a Lebanese-Australian jihadist affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS).

Goldberg first received widespread media attention under his alleged Twitter handle "Australi Witness" following the Curtis Culwell Center attack, a terrorist attack on a Garland, Texas exhibit featuring images of Muhammad in May 2015, in which two assailants died in a shootout with police. The "Australi Witness" persona, had, posing as a Perth jihadist, called for an attack on, and posted maps of, the center where the exhibit was taking place, and praised the jihadist attackers in its aftermath, and was retweeted by one of the assailants before the attack.

[–]Nechaev 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

You don't read the subreddit you moderate?

Not these days. It bores me to tears. The admins came along with that whole healthy communities initiative and for a short while I hoped things might change, but it looks like that was mainly hot air.

It"s a place for people to gripe and I think they should be allowed to have such a place, but a lot of it is outrage-porn. It is incredibly hostile to almost all moderators whether it is justified or not.

I would have preferred somewhere that people can come and air their serious grievances and where moderators would also have been willing to come and give their side knowing they would get a fair hearing, but that hasn't really happened. Maybe reddit isn't the kind of place that can happen given the way everybody uses upvotes and downvotes to agree and disagree, or maybe the fact that when SRC started it had a lot of trolling going on permanently damaged the way it was looked upon by the majority of the moderator community.

Why do you always act like you have power over me? Is it really that hard for you to act like a real human? Look at yourself, you can't even answer simple questions.

I'm not acting above you. If I was being arrogant I would have stopped trying to answer your comments a while ago. I'm just try to get straight questions I can answer. You're really dragging this out. I keep thinking the conversation is finished and then three days later I get another message..

I'm not sure what other questions I missed. I asked you to clarify your initial question:

So what is /r/subredditcancer's reaction when the cancer is one of the racists?

You never really did. Perhaps what I've said above about my current relation to SRC might explain why I don't feel like a spokesman for the sub these days.

In any case asking one person to speak for a whole subreddit ... especially a lightly moderated one... doesn't make that much sense to me.

BTW I'm not sure why you decided I'm racist because I don't run around stopping people from saying racist things everywhere I have the capacity to do so. I recall you seemed rather offended when I made a flippant pun about some person of indeterminate race in a gorilla suit.

At one stage I thought you were one of those people who understood that you could criticize SJW lunacy without being a full-blown goose-stepping Nazi. Oh well.

So post the screen shot then. It's your personal responsibility to blow everything out of proportion and make literally everything as dramatic as possible.

I'm not doxxing myself lol. I posted the screenshots to the admins.

I just don't see a reason to associate my nice peaceful account with all of the bullshit and hate that acompanies all political subreddits.

Nobody is safe from the autistic detective powers of the internet.

    [–]gets_it_mountie -1 ポイント0 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Honestly, there were no detective powers needed, i used the name adeadhead on discord and had top mod perms. Any subscriber who thought it was important could have known.

Aren't you someone's alt though? How are you asking that question seriously.

Power mods are as degenerate as junkies. You have to have a creepy personality and inadequate life to peruse it. Makes no sense.

at least junkies feel good occasionally

I used to mod on Reddit and it's an absolutely cancerous addiction. Since I've stopped, my life has improved greatly and I've had more time to do the things I love. Seriously, it's free labor driven by insecurity/greed for power under the mask of "service".

    [–]RandomRedditor44 1 ポイント2 ポイント  (1子コメント)

    How is it an addiction?

    [–]WorldRecordManager[S] 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Sorry, that was kind of an unfair statement and a bit of projection. /u/--Nylon gave me this account a while back, but I do realize that not everyone is completely addicted to moderation. I was more referring to those who actively and aggressively pursue postitions on default subs and dedicate obscene amounts of time.

Am I a power mod if I moderate like 7 total active subreddits?

    [–]420CO 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yes but you can redeem yourself by posting bussy.

    [–]80BAIT08 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Modding MAT or the number of other whinge at right wing subs is equal to power modding so yes.

    [–]RandomRedditor44 3 ポイント4 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Why does Mountie have like 4 alts? I only have 2: one for politics/games/etc. and other for porn.

    Hello,

My name is Alex. I found you on MarchAgainstTrump as one of the top mods and I think that's great! I like my bitch-boys skilled at something and still know their place. (Let's be honest if you modded a proper sub like politics or whatever, you wouldn't be shit)

From now on you'll be my duo and girlfriend. You'll pocket me.

    This comes with some conditions:

You'll be required to send me snaps of you every morning, noon and evening. Some nudes at night too.

You obviously wont be allowed to mod any more and talk to other guys.

If you please me, I'll buy you an occasional dildo or two.

We'll Skype everyday, make sure to buy a high definition web cam soon.

    PM me for contact details.
