New favourite quote 🙌

If you miss the amazon rainforest then stop buying sugar, soy, palm oil, tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas, pineapples, charcoal, diamonds, aluminum, oil, copper, gold, and paper

And can I ask–when you say you miss the amazon rainforest, do you also mean you miss the 90+ indigenous tribes that have been completely wiped out by corporate death squads who didn’t even bother to give them the chance to run for their lives before murdering them for land and money?

Or, are you just willing to admit you care more about a pretentious, fictional moral high ground gained by not eating animals than you do about human rights and environmental issues

^facts

Once again I have to be over here pointing out that natural resource economist point to reduction of animal consumption as one of a very few consumer choices that might actually help the environment Admittedly, it helps more on the CO2 front, but uh, that’s a big front. Also worth pointing out that most paper in the U.S. comes from domestic plantations not the rainforest wtf misinformation

‘Rat Park’ -Stuart McMillen

You’ll never think about drug addiction the same way again after reading this comic.

What I found absolutely impressive and stunning about this comic is the way the artist explained the identification and elimination of the confounding factors in the Rat Park study. This is one of the hardest parts of experiments to explain to the public, and I think it was just brilliantly done.

Source.

If I am reading the abstract correctly though, it seems like it didn’t replicate because neither rat group in the new study got addicted, correct? Which doesn’t necessarily imply that environment has no impact, and if anything is weak evidence of the original idea that opiates aren’t as “seductively addictive” as we thought

Computerized Forms

Online project by Daniel Givens combines graphic design and music to create sound reactive posters that run in your browser:

Computerized Forms is an experiment in making poster designs move to music using the Web Audio API. This on-going series is maintained by Daniel Givens (danielgivens.com) as a way to connect with other creatives and provide an outlet to work with the latest in web animation technologies. Each piece is prepared in a way that allows the design to inform the motion and musical pairing to result in a unique treatment and open-ended platform. Artists have been sourced by exploring Instagram and Soundcloud in effort to populate the project with a wide-range of styles so that it may act as a new form of artist discovery and promote the digital medium.

Web audio api, Soundcloud api, matter.js, pixi.js, greensock, three.js (coming soon)
