Ironman mode save frequency

I would love to play on ironman mode, the challenge seems appealing, and so do the acheivements. But it's nearly impossible to play due to how often it saves. I can't play on 'Fastest' without it saving so often that it feels like a low framerate.
Is there like an .ini file I can edit or something? I don't mind going into the game files if there is something to change.
