About the project

IPLAY is an iOS app created by sport lovers for sport lovers. The idea came to life when former handball professional Per Malmqvist missed having a social media app that focused solely on the sport community and would give professional and semi-professional athletes a unique way of communicating with their fanbase and a way of managing their careers.

Design

Our main goal was to make the experience with Iplay as easy and smooth as possible. Unique UI designs were created for Apple and Google standards respectively, including Pure Material Design for Android. Also, 10Clouds Design Team is fully responsible for current visual identity of the app.

App Development

The main challenge in this project was to create a fully functioning MVP in time for the 2016 European Handball Championships in Poland. The MVP of Iplay was released and available for download a couple of days before the start of the tournament. Check out Iplay on the App Store!

Backend

After positive feedback arrived for Iplay in iOS, our client decided to move on and build a version for Android devices. 10Clouds designers and developers braught the app to life in a perfect shape - you can download it from Google Play and see!

New Brand Creation

Before building the app, we started working on the whole branding process behind Iplay, which you can see in both versions: iOS and Android. Green as the main color represents energy, motion and freshness. You can also see the inspiration with sports and dynamics in the current Iplay logo.

Process

Thanks to utilizing the SCRUM methodology, we have managed to meet customer needs despite huge expectations and rigid deadline. We have truncated the scope of the MVP during backlog refinement meetings, and we were able to react to changing business needs.

User Interface Design

The first version of Iplay was released for iOS, so the User Interface Design was created with this platform in mind. After the app first gained traction in the AppStore, many potential users demanded an Android version, which is why we have already started building for that platform. For the design, we used Pure Material Design and followed all of Google’s standards.

Key functionalities

The main thought was to make the experience with Iplay easy, intuitive and smooth both for regular and super users. Here’s a selection of screens that show key application features.

PLAYER PROFILE

This is an example of a super user - the athlete’s profile. Meet Tobias Karlsson, a Swedish handball player, and follow him on Iplay!

FEED

After following a few players, the user sees a stream of the latest updates from the followed super users in the app feed.

RECOMMENDATIONS

For new users who haven’t followed any athlete yet, Iplay will automatically display updates from top trending players in a user’s feed.

In 10Clouds we found our perfect partner and we were able to release the first version of Iplay very quickly. The response we got from our users was amazing.
