Our top story today: Convicted hit man Jimmy 'Two-Shoes' McClarty confessed today that he was once hired to beat a cow to death in a rice field using only two small porcelain figures. Police admit this may be the first known case of a knickknack paddy-whack.

I always find this one to be gold: "Our top story today: Famous playboy Hugh Hefner managed to successfully stop an order of monks from operating a business on his property. The police forced the friars to close down their stall which was outside the Playboy Mansion, where they had been selling flowers. Said one friar: Well, if it was anyone else we may have gotten away from it, but unfortunately ONLY HUGH CAN PREVENT FLORIST FRIARS!"

Yeah but you don't think he walks around 24/7 thinking these up and filing them away fir the right moment? Some of improv is completely off the cuff, but some of it is scripted (at least in the performer's head)

No joke, check out the r/harmontown podcast. Jeff B Davis from Whose Line is one of the "cast members," and for real they are/it is consistently funny in the improvs with essentially zero prep.

      Edit: words. I've been drinking.

I wouldn't really mind if some of the show was actually scripted. It doesn't make it any less funny to me.

Still, some great stuff comes from them having total brain farts. There's a Detective sketch with a bird where Colin and Ryan both can't think of anything, so they keep passing the buck back and forth and it's hilarious/

Colin: "I knew he was going to explain how it all interconnected."

Ryan: "Oh, I could tell you. But wouldn't it be better coming from the bird? (to Colin) it's yours now!"

Colin: "So there I was, standing with a bird in my hand, knowing he was going to tell me the truth about my birth... then he died!"

(he meant the BIRD died, to pass the buck back to Ryan, but then Ryan dropped dead so he wouldn't have to answer).

For improvising, I'd actually have to give the crown to Ryan Stiles, but they're both great.

Every time I think of Whose Line, the first memory to pop into my head is Ryan Stiles running into the neon lights on Drew's desk and smashing them with his head. Also Carol Channing, even though I'm not actually sure who Carol Channing is.

I loved the episode where they were doing Sound Effects and one of the people they brought up from the audience accidentally made a quacking noise when Ryan and Colin were talking about elephants. Drew nearly fell out of his chair, he was laughing so hard.

Even with the majority of the same cast and a lot of the same skits, it just isn't the same. I have nothing against Aisha Tyler, but I think oddly enough Drew Carey made that show what it was even without him being in the skits. I think it was his high pitched laugh that you heard above anything else that was highly contagious.

Aisha is a bit more professional, I think, while Drew was more of an audience member with a great seat and some amount of control.

There are some gut-bustingly hilarious moments in the Aisha era. I love that she gets involved in scenes from a hat, and I think shes good at it. What I HATE are all the "celebrity" guests. I can't stand most of them, and they bring the show down IMO

The celebrity guests promoting their show/movie/whatever is what made me stop watching the reboot. It totally ruins the flow of the show. Well, that and the commercials every 2 minutes.

      No, it's not.

Reddit doesn't realize that not every play on words is a pun.

      • "Make like a tree & leave" is a pun.

      • "9/10 of people who are scared of hurdles never get over it" is wordplay.

I thought this at first as well. But there are two meanings of "get over it". One meaning is to overcome a trauma or disability, the other is to physically overcome something, like an obstacle. So, in a sense, it still is a pun. The different meanings are not in hurdle, but "get over it".

On another note, that lady is one of the funniest ones in comedy IMHO. I love the Midnight Show!

Heather Anne Campbell has got to be one of the best female comedians.

Is there any chance they'll do like the late night shows and post their new stuff online? I don't have TV

This show is hands down one of THE funniest shows ever conceived not called SNL or Key/Peele.

      I always loved comedy news

      The muppets:

Sam the American Eagle: Let me come right to the point. You, sir, are a demented, sick, degenerate, barbaric, naughty, freako!

      Alice Cooper: Why, thank you!

      Movies:

Airplane - preparing for crash landing

      Airplane 2 Russian news

      Simpsons

Kent Brockman: I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords. I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality I could be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground sugar caves!

It makes me sad when everyone makes fun of his baldness though. It's time to end this Colin mockery.

Love the USA one but always prefer the UK one because I grew up watching it. Clive Anderson was the perfect host.

I do miss ol' Clive. But I love all of the hosts for different reasons. Clive was so good with dry humor. He was very dry and cutting with his jokes, and I love that kind of humor. Drew was goofy and I find him kind of lovable in general. Some of my favorite parts of the show are some of the out takes involving Drew. And then Aisha Tyler was a new, fresh breath of air for the series revival. She is probably the most fun out of all of the hosts. Her repartee with Colin in particular always cracks me up. She seems to be having a lot of fun while she is hosting, which I think shows through in the end product.

I've seen the Clive ones, I've seen a lot of the Drew ones but I've not see the new ones with the new lady. Might have to get around to watching them when I get a chance.

I always loved Clive absolutely taking the piss out of Gregg Proops and vice versa. Plus the UK had Josie Lawrence and she is lovely.

I remember discovering the UK one on Comedy Central in the US in the late 90's, and rolling on the floor until my sides hurt.

Its two similar types of comedy but both had their own flavour. One was more British, one was more American (obviously, duh). When the UK one had American guests on it always worked so well, a nice mash of styles.

In the second line of the second panel, the word "of" is spelled using a zero instead of a capital O and it bothers me.
