Yeah those aren't really counterpoints to my contentions. The existence of comfortable modernity doesn't cancel out transient suffering, especially when that comfort is heavily subsidized by state welfare. Walmart in particular has full-time employees who still fall short of living wages. The free market is not why those people have heat and food.

Automated transport is going to eliminate a massive American industry. You freely acknowledge it's a crappy job, but it's the best that millions can do, and it will vanish. What does your Econ textbook say about the price of labor when a technological plummet in demand creates a massive influx of supply? Remember that these are largely uneducated workers, without savings, and this job was their best option. The assertion that they'll suddenly do better is comical.

I emphasize "suddenly," because the eventual future reintegration of displaced workers doesn't pay the rent today. Entertainment is already a narrow sliver of a household budget; no reduction in its price will help people keep their household. Child health statistics don't mean much when people can't afford insurance. The invisible hand isn't going to catch these people right after it yanks the rug out from under them.
