absolutely! 10/10. I feel like this video could be the response to 90% of r/libertarian comments.

They should lower taxes... UNLESS YOU WANT PEOPLE TO DIE!?

Straight to the top! This one is lit

This is such a great response to democrats "they sky is falling" mentality. This healthcare bill doesn't even repeal Obamacare, it o my tweaks it.

This false equivalency is so dense if the video was 5 seconds longer it would collapse into a black hole

Google appeal to emotion.

Google mockery.

This video basically makes the argument that considering how proposed legislation impacts people's lives including whether or not it will take away something that will assuredly result in some of them dying is equivalent to imposing the most extreme and ludicrous laws in the name of safety.

Does that really sound reasonable to you? What if we flip it on its head? "This bill will put more money into the pockets of Americans by lowering taxes." And then I respond by making a video where a bunch of guys mock the idea of printing enough money to give everyone a billion dollars and the economic collapse that would follow from it.

You'd rightfully call it out as bullshit because its not your intent to make everyone billionaires by reducing tax burdens for some people, just as its not the intent of the argument against the Republicans healthcare law to say the government should take silly and extreme measures to ensure safety

assuredly result in some of them dying

Literally the whole video applies to this. Helmet laws, speed limits, sugar restrictions, prison sentences.

And then I respond by making a video where a bunch of guys mock the idea of printing enough money to give everyone a billion dollars and the economic collapse that would follow from it.

That's not even a parallel. See earlier quote as an example of how the video above was a parallel.

[–]cynical-man-is-here 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (0子コメント)

But neither is a parallel, they are both absurd exaggerations based on the filmiest of logic.

Its a pathetic desperate strawman by people incapable of arguing the issue, they can't talk healthcare so they invent something completely insane that no one is supporting, a 4mph speed limit, claim that the same logic applies, and arguing against their strawman.

Surely you have to see just how god damn sad that is? And perhaps you can see why arguing about healthcare through an analogy to an absurd speed limit won't lead to good policy.

[–]_Periapsis_ -1 ポイント0 ポイント  (1子コメント)

It's a lot easier to draw connections between many of the examples in this video (say, speed limits not being set at 4mph) and people dying than the GOP's healthcare bill and people dying.

[–]cynical-man-is-here 2 ポイント3 ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yeah it is, setting the speed limit to 4mph would collapse the economy causing a lot more deaths than this GOP healthcare bill.

But then again, no one is advocating for a 4mph speed limit so it seems rather damn silly to be talking about it
