Not being able to function in society, at work, education, or otherwise is, IMO, too much. You can't drink too much MGTOW potion in one sitting. You wouldn't take 200 tabs of acid at once would you? Maybe you need a break for a few weeks.

Also, no one knows you're "awake" until you blurt out something, so keep it to yourself until you feel more comfortable about it.

I'm to a psychiatrist, some YMMV, but going on pills for starting to understand a different philosophy doesn't seem like something to take damaging brain changing medications.

You don't have a chemical imbalance, you have a philosophical awakening problem. You can't pill or therapy your way out of it, because you don't have a brain chemical problem, you have an idea problem. An unfixable one.

You shouldn't be hopeless. Hopeless about what? Not believing in a lie? Not believing girls are these good little unicorns that care about you?

If anything this opens your whole world to do. You can literally do anything you want. Travel the world. Work a dead end easy job. You don't have to buy expensive houses you don't want. You don't have to spend all your money on a wife and kids. You can get a dog if you want without asking permission of your wife, or a motorcycle, or chuck it all and go travel around Mexico tasting tequilas. The only permission you have to ask is of yourself.

You make your own goals and hopes and no one on Earth is some "authority", like a bitchy wife, stealing and stopping your dreams.

Get a world record for eating the most crickets. Your options are too numerous to list.

It's a positive, life affirming thing, not a hopeless depression. That's like thinking that you still have to get married, compete with other men for rare jobs and houses near good school zones surrounded by compete assholes.

Take it from someone who takes these meds and wants to desperately get off them. Your father is selling you a false bill of goods. The only upside is sleep, but in the long run they just make the depression problem worse. A soma at best.

Do you have any achievable goals set for yourself by yourself? Simple ones, like take out the trash, clean your desk, filter, sort, trash that pile of papers you've managed to accumulate,...

If not, maybe start working on saving up 1k$.

Because it's measurable and if you do it in small steps, you'll see YOUR worth slowly improve constantly, which might infect other aspects of your life. Once you reach that goal (on your Nth attempt without burning through it in one weekend =]) you might start getting stupid ideas on what to do with it.

Also helped me deal with regrets (past) and fear (future) when I actively started thinking more in terms of here, now. Not saying to be blind for the future or ignore the past, just don't park your car in those spots, they tend to get hot. Why not go into the shade for now and observe yourself, it helps calm the mind.

Otoh, that's just me.
