It was pretty disappointing in Chappelle's new special. Not disappointing he made a gay joke, because you can make anything funny if you're clever, but because it was just such a lazy and tired joke. I could see somebody like Norm Macdonald turning the premise into something though.

I don't think Norm would necessarily handle that sort of joke very well. I remember him making a joke on his podcast about how the term cismale is a way of marginalizing normal people.

I doubt that if that is his mindset he'd do anything new or interesting with any sort of "LGBTQ+ABCDEFG" type of joke.

His podcast persona generally seems to be playing dumb and saying outrageous things to make his guests uncomfortable. I can totally understand why people would be offended by that and it's complicated by trying to figure out if he means it or if it even matters if he means it. I like his show though, and I think sometimes he does good stuff with old premises. For instance, this slow burn hitler joke is refreshing in a sea of "lol holocaust hitler was right" shit you see edgelords yelling.

It is always hard to differentiate with Norm between the act and his actual views.

I do have a feeling though that if he were to make a LGBTQ joke it would be more along the lines of "are they going to use the whole damn alphabet" rather than something fresh. Based on some of his twitter rants and things he's said in the past, I feel like he is slightly conservative, and I'm assuming conservative comedians are more likely to make that joke.

But I fully admit that it's all speculation on my part. You never really could know until he makes the joke.

It seems like 90% of transphobes have no idea how transitioning works. Where is this wonderful world where you can get hormones as soon as you come out and everyone supports you?

For one thing, using sexuality as an insult is bound to have an impact on people's perception of sexuality, and it's something I've been affected negatively by. You're being generous, that number is likely higher. They really do think that if someone who is a teen thinks they're trans then they get pumped full of hormones. They're put on puberty blockers, which is akin to pressing pause and once they're 18 and go through all the rigorous medical hoops trans folk has to jump through, then they can start hormone therapy/start transitioning.

In my personal experience, there's a time gap between understanding how transgenderism works and to truly accept transgender people. Like, for quite a long time I accepted transgender people on a rational level, but still had an irrational fear/disgust for them.

But trans people are not new, like many things that have been in the margins and drawn to the center via the internet, trans people have existed for a long time. One of the first people in the US to have SRS happened in the 50s. I thnk the first one in the world or one of the first was in the 30s in Europe.

But you're right, new things are scary and people are hardwired to reject the new, that doesn't give them a free pass for being assholes though.

I worked with a talk radio host who would toss off all of the slurs at one time or another. It was part of his shtick; he was gay and was not going to let you forget how people treat his folks. That and pretending to be sexually aroused when homophobes called in to tell him he was going to hell.
