Because his net worth > Sharon Needles

On the serious side, probably money and free makeup. The makeup probably works well too. I mean Adore looks amazing.

I'm really torn bc I love his liquid lips formula, but have since found out about how awful he is. It's not like I'm gonna throw out what I already have, but I'm definitely not gonna go out of my way to buy more ever again.

You don't have to be torn about that, you already know you don't want to support his business anymore. Using the rest of your product isn't benefitting him go ahead and use it guilt free!

There's no reason to be torn over that. He already has those coins, so get your money's worth without feeling guilty. You already know what to do going forward.

I don't know almost anything about him other than racism. Does he really earn that much money through his makeup brand? He seems so young so I just assumed it was an up-and-coming kind of YouTube makeup or something...

He's basically been the same age since that one bitch hacked his MySpace (I was there when it happened, didn't even know who Ms Jeffrine was)

[–]MonaVanderwaalNina Bo'nina Brown 38

He's been building his brand (here comes the brand jokes) for years now through music & social media popularity right when the internet really took off, so he had timing on his side. He was even signed to Konvict records by Akon at one point before being dropped.

But anyway, his makeup is really suitable for drag queens, and apparently is well made. I'm sure Jeffree sponsors certain queens/people who also have a following and support/advertise his products (Trixie, Adore, Etc.)

[–]brauchenIt's absolutely gratis to use my apparatus

Well, non-black cis girls (the main YouTube MUA audience) got his back and since he is popular, all the lesser youtubers will praise his products in order to attract more views.

And also b/c he puts on blast anyone who gives him bad reviews and his shitty little league of keyboard warriors will spam their comments with hate.

tbh it's more or less the opposite of that, his constant drama is what keeps those desperate guru gossip channels (read: sanders kennedy) making JEFFREE STARR EXPOSED videos in their hundreds

then he puts up a fake apology and pays respected queens like fame or adore to assuage his consumers' guilt for buying his (admittedly pretty good) makeup

He's 31 and he's a multi millionaire. His makeup sells a lot and it's actually really good. My sis has one of his eye shadow palettes and it's actually gorgeous.

Edit: why y'all downvoting? I didn't say anything that wasn't true. Regardless of what you think of him, you can still be unbiased when looking at the facts. I replied to a comment asking if he made that much money. The man lives in a $3.6 million calabasas mansion. He's hardly 'up and coming'. And whether you like him or not, his eye shadows are pigmented and blend like a dream.

I didn't think Jeffree apologized. He admitted it was wrong and asked that you consider that he was in a bad place at the time. But the videos are 12 years old...You don't think a person doesn't change from when the graduate high school till 12 years later?

No he definitely could've changed from 12 years ago. People are able to change. However, him continuously calling black women "rats" (as recent as last week to Jackie Aina!!!) tells me otherwise.

((Please don't downvote them I think they legitimately don't know about what happened with Jeffree and Jackie.))

I agree 100%. Can't believe he didn't address this in his "apology" video. I've lost all respect for him once again. He shouldn't be able to get away with these "mistakes" which are him just shrugging off full-blown racism/sexism.

And what's truly disturbing to think about is that if Jeffree weren't white and didn't have a romantically "ideal" face/body, people would never let him off so easy.

Jeffree being a white gay man is already enough for people to forgive him. Him being in the makeup industry means that he can literally do no wrong, ever (according to his fan base).

"When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time." - Maya Angelou

Jeffree can apologize all day up and down but at the end of the day he still disrespects women, especially BLACK women, and an apology means nothing when you just did it for your image. People have asked him to apologize for years and he only did it now because that video is going viral.

I honestly CAN NOT, it's like I'm in the Twilight zone and suddenly everybody is eating this shit up and giving this rusty crusty rat a 52341823137489 chance?

It's way more than obvious that the world hates black people and POC, otherwise this walking turd wouldn't have the amount of exposure it has.

Even more damaging is that, even if they all don't hate POC, they are totally fine with supporting someone who obviously does. I had many a conversation with a Trump supporter who, when I called out his obvious prejudice, bias and racism, would say things to the effect of "That's not what I support him for" or would ignore/deflect and talk about how they wanted to get this country back on track again, and he was the man for the job.

It doesn't matter if you don't see yourself as racist. You support someone who is. That makes you a serious part of the problem.

I could NOT with that non-apology video. I love how he tried to make seem like it's his "past self" when he was just on twitter this past weekend showing his whole ass, coming for Jackie Aina and then deleting it like he always does cause he's messy boots.

He definitely only "apologized" because he knows Jackie has a platform big enough to do damage to his brand

Yeah black women were already looking at him sideways to begin with, but he fucked up his coins disrespecting Aunt Jackie. He took absolutely no accountability for his racism in that video so he clearly only did it to save his image.

Taking no accountability just shows he doesn't understand what he did wrong. He's trash and it sucks that so many other male makeup youtubers are trash along with him because they have a chance to be good role models. Side note: I don't trust anyone Jackie disapproves of.

Wait sis, he came for Aunt Jackie? Girl. What did I miss?

Here's a break down of it

But basically Jackie called him out for blocking her (cause he was pressed that she spoke out refusing to support him because of his racism towards black women) and he called her an "irrelevant rat" then proceeded to straight up up LIE and say she hadn't paid her taxes in years, trying to imply that she's broke.

I also love that he tried to act like he blocked her months before her anti-haul video that dropped in April when receipts say otherwise lol https://twitter.com/tinodelrey/status/875899709789024256

In his "apology" video, he straight up said "it was not about race"

He used racial slurs & talking about lightening skin tones with battery acid, but it's "not about race" ok girl.

I just feel like he hasn't accepted that, even if he wouldn't say those things now, those things are inherently racist & that lived within him. And if he can't see his past clearly, I don't see how he can truly change.

Straight up, never been a fan of jeffrey star. That being said, I saw the FULL videos when they first came out ( mid 2000's) and dude would straight up just be walking around or at a red light and folks would shout out 'faggot' and he would proceed to call them every name in the book (usually while pulling out a pink taser ). Gay folks LIVED for it. probably saw it in a 'fuck you straights, you can't bully us' type of way.

If someone were calling the queens faggots and trannies y'all would not give a damn about the context in which it was said. This isn't any different. Those words came out of his mouth and he meant it to be hateful and that's that.

Of course he meant it to be hateful. That was the point. You hurt me, I'll hurt you. and as I said before, a lot of the gay community lived for him and egged him on ( after all, he would upload the videos himself.) was it right? No! but it was a different time back then.

Because despite the the glamorous facade, being a famous drag queen is still a pretty marginal way to make a living; supplementing one's income and leveraging one's fame by collaborating with others (even if they are really gross and problematic people like Jeffery Star) is one way to ensure that you can continue to make money and maintain your relevancy.

[–]TimVdVNina Bo'nina Brown 20

Jeffree Star is trash and I get disappointed every time I see a queen supporting or endorsing him.

Gurl, I know. I find myself asking that question a lot. I was a fan of Jeffree in the past (I didn't know how horrible he was), but when I found out how he was, I came to my senses. There's his racism, the way he treat(ed) women/his fans, and his inability to take proper criticism like an adult. I'm pretty sure the Queens only support him because they get free makeup, exposure from his fans, and he is one of th sponsors for Dragcon.

it's shitty but i don't really see it changing unless someone with a big name within the drag race community calls it out. probably most of the queens we actively see posting about using his stuff have sponsorships with him, like someone else here said. but i think a lot of the queens use it because it was kind of made to be drag makeup -- other brands exist for glamour or theatre, but his stuff was made to work for both and has been branded as such.

i don't think it's that none of them care about it (it being anti black racism). i just think they're either ignorant or not very effective at caring about it. it's also worth considering that within the drag race community and the makeup community (moreso the latter, i figure) he has a certain status that makes working with him appealing and calling him out maybe not pragmatic. again, it's shitty, but i figure most of the drag race queens are used to working with people they don't really like sometimes and putting a good face on it.

I guess his makeup is really good so that excuses his disgusting behavior in their eyes. Receiving free products is placed above morals? I dunno. Not to be super sanctimonious but I would love to eat Chik-Fil-A but I don't want to support their homophobic bullshit. I guess people can easily be bought.

Omg..... I'm a gay that eats Chick-fil-A..... their waffle fries and ranch sauce tho sis...

Yeah me too. I'm from the south, so Chick-fil-a is in my blood. They could make a rule that gays can't eat there and I'd put on my ugliest outfit and butch it up to get my chicken sandwich

Which queens support him ?

Laganja as well.... she's done a couple collab videos with him and uses/seems to informally endorse his makeup

Alyssa Edwards has also made a couple videos with him and there was also some kerfluffle here when a picture of them together at DragCon this year was posted to this sub.

Jeffree said some pretty awful things like 10 years ago which is still being held againts him till today. Sharon Needles on the other hand has done the same thing but you guys don't seem to be that pressed about it, as you are with Jeffree. Hmm i wonder why..

I think the difference is in intent and broader personality. Sharon Needless is, in part at least, a comedian. And she has really really missed the mark a few times. But a racist attempt at humour is still better than straight up racism. And we can still see from the rest of what she stands for and chooses to speak about that she has heart and substance behind her.

From everything I've ever seen of Jeffrey, he has no substance. Those comments were made to degrade someone and to look 'cool' in the process, something I haven't seen from Needles (though if there is that might make me rethink). With Jeffrey, wipe away the makeup and there's nothing there - at the end of the day, the grelim that's left only stands for and chooses to speak about his self, money and status.

This. I feel like people are picking and choosing when it's okay and not just because it's a certain person. What about Alaska drawing swastikas on her face, Eureka saying the n-word, Charlie doing blackface, Sharon signing a photo writing "I love you n-word" etc. People only hate cause it's Jeffree honestly.

Ford was a nazi and still made good cars.

Mr Star is a pissy manchild with a make up line.

Queens build themselves on their ability to be able to tap into the vulgar and controversial aspects of pop culture.

Sometimes you can forgive people if they make millions of dollars a year and stock you with free make up for promos.

I mean, it's not like JS doesn't make low quality make ups.

Queens stay saying some pretty offensive stuff but block the inquiries about that stuff with "I'm a Drag Queen this is what I do".

Yeah he's trash. I remember when he said that black women should lighten their skin tone using battery acid. It was forever ago but I never forgot it. It was just like... wow.

Here's the T

I used to watch these videos back in the day and I found them funny, a LOT of people found them funny. He was the most popular person on MySpace and we all knew about these antics.

When you're 15 and it's 2007 it just seems like fun and being a 'bitch' on the internet was seen as cool back then. So I get it. Things were different back then, people were less sensitive, humour was more risqué and social media was very new.

But it's wrong. It's so so wrong. If Jeffree made those comments these days obviously his career would be over, but I'd feel like a hypocrite saying nobody should support him for those videos when at the time everyone (including me) thought they were funny. We all did shit on the internet when we were younger, I think as long as he apologised and his behaviour has changed we should just let this racist video thing die and leave it where it belongs: 12 years ago.

Call me young, call me illiterate (downvote me to filth) but honestly I think maybe the queens also associate with him because all that stuff took place like 10yrs ago? Not saying his actions/words were right in any way but 10yrs ago I was an idiotic //soy edgy// little piece of shit who thought it was cool to get a rise out of people too. Posting attention-seeking MySpace blogs & such to prove how fearless (read: cringey) I was.

I saw this crazy, pink-haired gender fluid person getting hailed hate comments like 'faggot' all the time (which was happening to me irl too and making me horrendously depressed) but instead of crying or reacting like a victim, Jeffree fought back (quite literally) and would fight insults with insults (or when all else failed pull out his taser) Again, not saying those were proper reactions but it did teach me to be more fearless and eventually come out to my mom, etc. which is why I'll always hold a place in my heart of respect and gratitude for Jeffree. Just as I'm a completely different person now and I can recognize how disgusting and cringey my old posts were (as are his), I truly do think he's had that same epiphany. It's sometimes rare but people do change for the better sometimes.

I'm still confused as to how this is a relevant to a RPDR sub, tbh. Can we put up a Chick-fil-a ad since the queens eat there?

Jeffree used to hang with a bunch of people I knew and they all hate him. He hasn't changed, he is still awful. Even Kat Von D (also questionable) finally gave up on his shit. Yes, Sharon is also bad.
