Testing Trident? (self.ukpolitics)

So given that negotiations are under way, the UK really needs to play a strong hand. I think to this end Theresa May should order a test of the Trident system. A nuclear test (I'm thinking a fairly low yield device) would have the advantages of showing strength to the EU negotiating team (also would do the country well to show Russia that the UK means business).

I would suggest somewhere in the middle of the North Sea for the detonation. Have cameras in place and the footage playing 24/7 on the news channels. I'm guessing we'd see a deal on the table in no time. Obviously they'd be outraged but also scared. We'd agree to stop nuclear tests in return for Single Market access for example.

This is straight out of Tsun Tsu's playbook, when your enemy is mad, make them madder...

Anyway, what do you guys think? How should Trident be used in the Brexit talks?

The Tories already tried using security as leverage in negotiations. The EU told the UK where to stick it.

It's an implied threat (of course through smiling faces we'll say it's not the case), a reminder of the power of the country has, a card to play in the talks ("Oh yeah, we'll stop our tests. What are you (EU) giving up in return?") and a much needed real world test of the system.

It's fucking stupid, why would we threaten our allies with mass distrustion.

It's like setting off a pipe bomb in your works car park then walking in and asking for a rise.

Not only would we loose our biggest trading partners but all respect from the rest of the world and we would really be a little island we are.

Ok, not enemy. But adversary in the talks. Brexit will affect the country for decades. We need a good deal, our national security is at stake. Trident is there to defend the people.
