i don’t have high hopes for dragon army because frankly i just don’t think duncan has the skills to pull it off + i love intentional communities as much as anyone but im a little concerned that his first attempt is “duncan is in charge of everything”, like im pretty arrogant but i would never try to do that first even if i decided that structure was a good idea because id want to get a bunch of information in a way where i didn’t have to learn basics while people depended on me + army is the wrong fucking metaphor for a small group which wants to be personally effective, armies are about breaking people in a way that makes them really legible and predictable so that you can have a precise estimate for when you’ll be able to deliver equipment x to point b

that said, i really respect duncan’s attempts to let people informedly consent to something that’s pretty difficult to get consent for

this kind of seems (and this part is low confidence, don’t take me too seriously) like he has a shitty disposition/intuitions, but is doing an admirable job of memorizing what ethics looks like so he can do ethical things anyway even when he’s like starting a weird autocratic cult (i still wouldn’t trust anyone who wants one at all with a weird autocratic cult, but it’s a good effort)

i considered signing up just out of curiosity but ultimately the curiosity would last me a week and then id either deliberately subvert duncan’s authority or be traumatized and have cfs symptoms and take half a year to recover, neither of which are in line with what he’s going for (i am also for that matter vaguely bitter about the fact that i think i could run it better than him, even though i just do not have enough of the right kind of spoons to do the job and would kind of hate it, just because i pay a lot of attention and don’t do things like writing fiction where normal twelve year olds sound like the kids from enders game (this is a thing duncan does).)
