Hey guys, my name is Kyle and I make web design tutorials on Youtube.
This morning I uploaded a new video and shared it to /r/webdev. This post completely blew up and sat at the top of the subreddit for the entire day. This was amazing for my channel, my subscriber count doubled, it got more views than my 4 other previous videos and my inbox was FLOODED with amazing and positive comments.
Without warning, after the post had accumulated over 260 upvotes, beating out the next highest post of only 85 upvotes... My post was deleted and my account banned from /r/WebDev and /r/Web_design
Let me just make it known, and my post history will back this up, I have been a member on /r/WebDev since long before I ever started Youtube, and I actively participated in comments.
Their fifth rule states as follows:
no excessive self-promotion or critique requests
Based on the amazing feedback of the members of the subreddit commenting and upvoting my post I do not believe anyone would agree that I had been excessively self-promoting. I will state, my video does have a sponsor, I was paid a small amount to include a short paid 20 second bumper at the beginning of the video before the full tutorial. Maybe this is what has upset the mods, but to me, it didn't appear as if anyone else had minded. I received so many thanks and appreciative comments it was overwhelming.
Now, I would still be upset if the moderators had told me I was no longer able to post my own videos in the future. but that's not even what has happened. The post has been eliminated and my account banned.
It appears quite possibly that quality content is not welcome on /r/webdev or /r/web_design
