It’s no secret to anyone that I love the Black Knight and he’s one of my favorite villains of any game (with Kefka, Porky and others). Unfortunately, the GBA General sprite is a pain to redo, and it’s mostly a recolor with some alterations. You deserved better, BK.

Nergal’s Message

This is a message from Lord Nergal. “I await you on the Dread Isle.”

I took some liberty with Denning’s outfit, since we only can see his head in FE7. Hope you like it!

And once more, thanks to Robotortoise for checking the spelling of the comic! And thanks so much to Elteh for telling me about separating the comic to post it! I had no idea…

Here, have a lot of Alternate Endings!

I want to make an infomercial where it’s not clear what the guy’s selling. Like he’s demonstrating how powerful this vacuum is by sucking up a bowling ball but then he starts showing you how strong the bowling ball is by dropping it on some knives, but then he’s showing how the knives haven’t been damaged at all by using them to cut through some shoes and it goes on and on for two hours then just loops back to the start while a number flashes on screen the whole time and if you call it it just echoes whatever you say back to you.

No you don’t understand how frustrated I am that we always depicted the Apostles as old men, especially when it comes to during-Jesus-alive stuff.

They were probably late teens to early 20s, given the time and the description and some Biblical passages.

They were not ancient old men with long beards and wrinkles at the Last Supper.

They were young adult rebels with a cause.

I can’t remember where, but the bible says that Jesus was the only one who was old enough to pay the temple tax required by Jewish law, none of the disciples had hit that age. A quick google tells me that Jewish men pay it from the age of 20 - all of the disciples were teenagers.

markntony

Why this is possible:

  • Probaly they were all underage except for Peter. In Exodus 30:14-15, Jewish law states that every male over the age of 20 is to pay a half-shekel as census offering when they visit the temple of God. In Matthew 17:24-27, Jesus instructs Peter to “fish up” this tax. Peter finds a shekel in the mouth of the fish he catches; enough to pay the tax for two men, himself and Jesus. You could conclude that the others were underage and did not need to pay.
  • In Matthew 11:25, Luke 10:21, and John 13:33, Jesus calls his disciples little children .
  • We learn that Peter had a wife when Jesus healed his mother-in-law. In those ancient times, a Jewish man receives a wife after the age of 18. Again, no other disciples’ wives are mentioned, so they are unmarried and probably under 18.
  • Jewish children began intensive study at young ages, but education for most concluded by age 15. For those bright (or wealthy) enough, higher education consisted of studying under a local rabbi. If they didn’t find a rabbi that accepted them as a student then they entered the workforce by their mid teens. The disciples, already working-men, must have been rejected  by other rabbis when Jesus hand-picked them for further education as his disciples. In light of this, a younger age is more probable than older. A youth would be in the mindset of continuing his education. A man over 30 leaving his trade to follow a rabbi would be counter-cultural , although not impossible.
  • The behavior of the disciples, as detailed in the gospels, fits well with the zealous nature and foolishness of adolescence. Picture a gang of teens instead of work-hardened men in the boat when the storm hit, fear-stricken and waking up Jesus for help. The forgetful and distracted nature of youth helps me understand how they could hear Jesus say he would die and come back to life, yet act as they did when these things happened. When we age them under twenty, we can understand Jesus’ patience with them, his low expectations of their behavior, and his teaching style.

one of my favorite tidbits about speedrunning that comes up every time the games done quick marathons come around is how Wind Waker speedruns are about five hours long because of the giant wall in Hyrule that actually forces the runner to play the game because they’ve been throwing shit at this wall for over a decade and still can’t figure out a way past it. the wall in hyrule is entirely unglitchable and the only way past it is to play the game properly. the speedrun would be like one hour if they could get past this wall but nope, it’s five hours. fuck the wall.

deathtosquishies

and the comedy of this situation is exponentially amplified the more you know about skips and glitches in speedruns in general

as examples of how broken WW is elsewhere, you can clip through walls and go out of bounds to skip entire dungeon sequences pretty much anywhere with a ledge, use the Wind Waker to enter a state where you ignore physics and swim at 5000 miles an hour, and even fly infinitely into the sky after dying like some kind of helium zombie. do you know how many games could be broken wide open by an infinite height trick? TTYD would shave off 3 or 4 hours.

but this fucking barrier around Hyrule Castle, against all odds, is just completely insurmountable with any of this. Ganondorf is literally the most successful and powerful villain in gaming history and this Super Extendo Fuck You Shield™ is a shining testament to it

ark-shifter

This is the kind of information I want on my dash

bigscaryd

Oh but they beat it just recently. A barrier skip was demonstrated last summer and a reliably method developed just in April, with a successful run at 1:35 just last month. A good summary video is at https://youtu.be/-hUIp3eUyKI and there are a bunch of 2 and sub-2 any-percent and an all-dungeons just over 3 on YouTube.

melodicmetroidmusings

I would like to take a moment to address the relationship between AM2R and Metroid: Samus Returns.

melodicmetroidmusings

Hello, everyone.

To our surprise, an official remake of Metroid 2 was announced during the Nintendo Treehouse last week. Let it be know that DoctorM64 and the rest of the devs behind AM2R are very much looking forward to Metroid: Samus Returns. AM2R was originally started to serve as a platform to practice programming. After 10 years, it gained a much bigger following than anticipated and eventually served as a loudspeaker for the demand of mainline Metroid titles.

Now we know Nintendo was listening.

Whether or not AM2R had any influence on Metroid 2 receiving an official remake, we honestly don’t know but so far the signs seem to point to no. Yoshio Sakamoto was not aware of the project until after M:SR had already been in development for about a year. (http://kotaku.com/the-creator-of-metroid-ii-fan-game-am2r-isnt-mad-about-1796175492?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Twitter&utm_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow)

Regardless of their awareness of the project, the fact that we are getting two brand new Metroid games is wonderful news! Most fans, like us, seem to be ecstatic. However there’s some concerning behavior cropping up.

This morning I saw on Twitter that some people want to boycott M:SR to support AM2R (https://twitter.com/sabre230_AM2R/status/876493925694881796). PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS. If you don’t want to buy the game because you can’t afford to or it doesn’t seem like a game you would enjoy, don’t buy it. That’s your money, spend it the way you want. But if you’re not buying it because of the whole AM2R/Nintendo debacle, that makes the community look bad, like we’re upset with them for giving us what we’ve been asking for for years.

The overwhelming support is great, we’re so incredibly thankful for everyone who played the game and stuck by us when things got rough. Your kind words mean the world to us.

tl;dr - We love you and the support you give us, but now it’s time to support Nintendo for listening to their fans. Play Metroid: Samus Returns, show them yes, this is what we want!

Thank you for your time.
