Get your passport so you can go over to the Canadian side of the falls. The view is awesome.

Nah it's just a goal. I have 2 days to travel as far as I can. Then stay one day and use the 2 at most 3 days to get back to NYC for a graduation on Sunday

Don't try to get close to the border riding freight. You're going to have a shit time hopping out of NYC proper. Try NJ or get up to Albany and start at Selkirk. Ride some DS to Buffalo and then take the bus or Amtrak to Niagara Falls from there. Niagara Falls is kind of a dump and hella depressing though outside of the Falls themselves.

Because they roll trains over the bridge slowly through a portable machine (kind of like those wheeled cargo container "cranes" you see in some IM yards.) They use X-ray, infrared, or backscatter, ect.. to look for bombs, hazardous materials, and people trying to sneak past border patrol. That's a busy border crossing between NY and Ontario. If you get pulled off, you're going to have an bad time. Have you considered just getting a passport?

Having never hopped before but aiming to next year. Plan to go the wrong way, and what to do if you do.
