Did you see those screen shots^ please take action. Please don't let this sub goto shit): it's a saving grace outside of the normal overwatch sub and it makes no sense to destroy it for a couple of mods using their power abusively

Did they respond? Was there anything else in this exchange?

I mean technically I deserved my ban, I called him a cancerous asshole (I still stand by this statement) which is against the rules. Worth it, whatever. I messaged them to let them know of his awful comments and demeanor to users and I was in turn called an asshole and trolled (told me how I felt and etc, which is exactly what they banned others for doing...)

But you legitimately didn't do anything here, if this is the full story.

The player who was the subject of this drama was just banned by Blizzard and removed from his team.

Which is even more proof that this wasn't witch hunting and had every piece of evidence needed to use as a means of discussion on the sub.

Except the posts that were removed were removed before Blizzard officially banned him. How could they know that it was enough proof for Blizzard to ban them at the time. Its accusing someone they are guilty before a judge can rule them anything, quite literally the story of to kill a mockingbird. They even say in their mod post that until Blizzard actually bans them they are assumed innocent and it's witch hunting.

The guy was literally streaming himself throwing anf grieffing in match making on purpose and tried to get his wievers to do the same by saying stuff like "lets all que and throw games we could probably ruin every single comp game right now" to 2k+ people. I think thats enough proof to say without a doubt that he was throwing...

i thought the point was that the subreddit is not for reporting players. and again, why would it be

It's for discussing competitive overwatch (with emphasis on the pros) and Dafran is not only a #1 comp overwatch player in all of NA, but he was on selfless, a very notable professional team.

    So your point is irrelevant

Someone trolling in ranked is not a discussion about competitive overwatch, nor esports content.

He threw in a professional game too. Why do you get so much pleasure from disagreeing with me? Just do 5 minutes of research about the situation

Well first of all even if you have proof of a claim that does not mean what you are doing is not a witch hunt, it clearly is. Secondly I fail to see how these posts contribute to discussions about competitive meta or strategy, esports tournaments or team performance. This is an issue about customer support and Blizzard's policies. The punishment of the player in question will not change their non-working reporting system so what exactly are you trying to accomplish? You and other redditors collectively helped to end some idiots career in esports, congrats.

Overwatch seems to have a serious problem with this. Recently in /r/girlgamers another video popped up of someone throwing a match because of a female teammate. I've been wanting to try overwatch for a bit, but can't decide if it's worth the money with the community

[–]PandemultGod knew what he was doing, buttholes are really nice. 30

From what I've seen on reddit, the community is actually really good.

    [–]this_time_thoI spent over $6,000 on laptops last year.

Yup. It probably comes down to the cast being very diverse and international and to the emphasis the game places on cooperation and shared fun.

I would say that the community is by in large very very good, but the game is currently in a bad place. While we may have something like 90% amazing people, we also currently have an epidemic of griefers and trolls in competitive play. Literally more than 50% of my matches over the last week have had a troll on at least one team. The reason for this is because blizzard does not have an effective punishment system in place. Usually these griefers are at worst muted and rarely suspended or banned.

For what it's worth, I almost never run into deliberate trolls on console. I think not having a text chat makes people less prone to be dicks

I really want to try OW on console. I used to play alot of COD and Halo, but OW seems like it would be such a fun and chaotic mess lol

I started playing OW on PC , but recently my pc just kills itself whenever I run overwatch, so I bit the Bullet and bought it again on console. God is it fun and I'd argue it's great not being cussed for stupid shit like on PC, people seem to be really chill, at least in non competitive modes.

[–]impossible_planetMy kidneys hurt from the salt

I think one of the problems is throwing isn't overtly punished, neither is trolling in general. I've reported my share of people in OW but I don't know if it does anything. Until recently there was also a streak bonus that built with every win, so some people gamed the system and deliberately lost games so they could stomp easier competition while enjoying a streak back up.

That being said, for the most part OW is a really fun game and the majority of the playerbase actually want to play properly. So give it a shot!

I think I probably will. I picked up paladins on steam to see if the style was something I could work with, since I don't generally play that genre, and I've been having a lot of fun with it. Just have to overcome my fear of random teammates. I've always leaned towards games that don't require teamwork for that reason lol

I play Paladins when I'm burnt out on Overwatch but if you don't like Paladins.. I'd still give OW chance. OW is extremely polished and perfectly aimed to casual and competitive players alike.

Not to be really rude, but Paladins is sort of a bad knockoff. I still support them and hope they can do better but even the engine they built it in is awful. Very unresponsive. Half of the time I die without even knowing I was losing health because the indicators are so bad.

I picked it up with the knowledge it was a knockoff, specifically to see if it was my style. Might not have made that clear, I actually do enjoy it

Am female with about 1k hours in OW, ranging from QP hours to Silver/Gold/Plat/Diamond comp matches, so I've seen quite a bit of the game. I'm also a shotcaller in comp so basically everyone is aware of my gender before the game starts. With those facts in mind, I have had maybe 40-50 games TOTAL where someone made a sexually harassing comment. Only in one game have I dealt with someone who actively threw the game because of my gender.

The game is freaking awesome - I highly recommend it. There are more good people than bad. I hope you decide to try it sometime!

Although I'm male, my experience mirrors this. Thanks for sharing.

I remember telling my wife that there was a female shot caller who lead the team and wasnt trolled, because after a number of years playing games it felt like a significant moment. I've met jerks but overall the community is good.

Another female here. Started plat level, now sitting in high Master. The higher you go up, the more they seem to care about your gender. I'm also a shotcaller and the easiest way to ignore trollers/throwers/omguragurl people is to just ignore them. It happens, more frequently then I like.

HOWEVER, I've also made incredible friends on Overwatch, much more then I did in our games. It's so much fun playing with people who are awesome and nice. The good definitely outweighs the bad.

Yeah I think it's because Overwatch really appeals to girls. It's not like Dota or CoD where the playerbase is basically all male. It's a great shooter, and the only one I can stand to play, because of the character design and the fact that it's just plain fun.

I've heard people even convince their parents to play because of Mercy and Ana.

I'm trying to get my mother interested by showing Mercy gameplay. So far, she says, "it's too noisy!" Lol

[–]fingerpaintswithpoopTrust me kid, I've seen the interent. I've seen it all.

People throwing games makes me so fucking furious. All I want to do is climb the ranks, but I can't do that when some jackass joins just to sabotage the game for the sake of trolling or whatever and ruins it for everybody else. I call them on it and their response is basically "U mad bro?"

    YES. YES I FUCKING AM.

And some players are so bad that it is hard to tell if they are trolling or not. My first placement match ever our Lucio falls off the map to his death 4 different times in a single round despite not being engaged with the enemy at the time.

I went from several years of CS:GO to overwatch when it came out, and overwatch has a MUCH better community in my opinion.

Reddit loves drama (look where we are) so if you browse reddit only the juicy stuff will rise to the top, but in day to day play my experience is pretty good.

    [–]Choppa790If we didn't take his airbase we'd be cucks. 2

overwatch is really not that bad, you are more likely to have bad players than intentionally asshole players, and those can be blocked immediately.

I was skeptical too, but ended up getting hooked and buying it after one of the free to play weekends. It's nowhere near League of Legends toxicity and is a bit better than World of Warcraft.

Give it a try and see if you think it's fun. I've only had one salty teammate so far, everyone else seems pretty goofy and chill. You can always turn off voice chat anyway.

If it helps, there was also a recent thread in another sub where a girl was getting shit from one teammate and everyone else (even people on the other team) told the kid to shut up and piss off.

I am a guy, so i'm less exposed to the sexism/machismo incidents, but i don't remember a single instance of someone throwing because of a female team-mate. That's purely anecdotal, though, so it may well be unrepresentative.

That said, i read recently that 20% of the Overwatch user-base is female, so i think they must be doing something right, as that's the highest ratio for a popular FPS by a significant margin.

Get into it. The drama is more a byproduct of the size and popularity of the game rather than the community quality. It's great and you won't regret it. People are passionate because it's awesome!

    [–]YesThisIsDrake"Monogamy is a tool of the Jew" 0

Game is fun, its a good introduction to FPS and has depth beyond that.

Community is shitty, but I'm spoiled since the Destiny community, especially on reddit, was and still is miles better.

It's not that Overwatch is more toxic, in fact I'd say it's less toxic than a lot of other big games. However, there aren't really any consequences for trolling/throwing and the game is so team reliant that one person deciding to throw will decide the outcome of the match.

[–]OIPI will have you know that Donald Trump is extraordinarily kawaii 0

it's a really good game, very polished and stupid amounts of fun. yes, working with five random people can be utterly infuriating but can also be hilarious. and there's always the option to group with however many friends you want, up to a full team.

[–]fearoftheskyYou are actively moving your face toward homosexuality.

It's a fantastic game, but there is a problem with the community being toxic. I just don't really seriously bother with competitive mode, and am judicious with the mute and report functions.

Don't buy it on console until Blizzard add a proper report feature, though.

imo community games built around competitive modes are pretty toxic. LoL is toxic, i also played MMOs where if you didn't have the highest possible stats you would not be able to join any raid groups, and if you underperformed you would be vote kicked mid raid. Ive seen it in many games. Its only worth it if you enjoy the competition and the game.

Don't worry too much. The community is good, but the reddit community that enjoys any game always has a good group of the shittiest people. It's weird, but often those type of people are the loudest.

I've never experienced this. There's been maybe 1 or 2 throwers I've had in 400 hours on the game. There's usually a girl in every game I play, and they're vocal with callouts and everyone plays and interacts like they normally would, as it should be. Though I'm in the higher ranks, where I guess there would be more civilized and less toxic players so I can't speak for lower ranked competitve

don't think of it as a rival. think of it as supplementary.

If the mods don't want to host the content people want to be made aware of, make another sub where that information can be found.

I'm sure there's other subs that don't allow the same kind of information.

can just have one sub to cover all the games. individual flairs so you can filter which games you want to see reports on.

i mean...it could happen if people give enough of a shit to put it together. instead of just making more threads about it in whatever sub is suppressing the information they want made available.

That is literally the definition of with hunting,

It's discrimination against people who doesn't follow the rules, not witch hunting.

Go find me a witch hunt case/story with confirmed evidence that the person was a witch.

If I report a criminal to the police with evidence, are we then witch hunting?
