Being the first one to grab a newly awake baby from their crib is the best feeling, just smiles and giggles. It just sucks that it's always followed by "put down my baby" and "how did you get in here?"

I looked after a friend's baby for a week when she had to go away for family issues. The first morning I was going in to take him out of his cot, I was afraid he would make strange with me because he would be expecting his mother. Instead he was just full of smiles and giggles. And it was like that every morning. I didn't know little kids did that and it just made me excited to wake up every morning.

Co-sleeping during the nursing months is both hell, because the little ones kick all night, and heaven, because they will climb all over you and slobber you in milk-breath kisses to wake you up. I miss that alarm clock even if they woke me at five in the morning.

How long were you co sleeping with your baby? If they could clamber over you they had to be at least 6/7 months, that's dedication. We did it for two weeks before saying fuck that you're going in the cot.

The latest one stayed for a year. We were moving a lot at the time, literally every week, and this kept baby feeling there was something stable in her life and we didn't drag a cot around. She's a very emotionally stable tween now so I think we made the right call for our situation back then.

Obviously, it puts a damper on any sex life in the bed. I can show you twenty-seven other places to get busy in any given house.

Definitely sounds like the best thing to do in that situation. Really good for bonding aswell. We just preferred our sleep and managed to get him to sleep for 12 hours a night by 4 or 5 months. The co sleeping kicks were torture hahaha!

12 hours at 4 months is a near miracle. And yes the kicks are torture! It's a good thing I am not a light sleeper.

Our kiddo is a saint. Slept 12 a night at 8 weeks old onward.

Co-sleeping? Like having the baby in bed with you? From birth? Sorry, I'm 14 weeks on my first and I had no idea people did this!

Yeah, you need a big bed so there's enough space, but trust me the baby kicks and moves a lot so you'll be sleeping on the edge. A lot of people do this for various reasons, it's easier to night-nurse if the baby is just right there.

[–]Neverknew_whattodo 0 ポイント1 ポイント  (1子コメント)

I did it with my daughter because I was breastfeeding her and I gotta say, she still pretty much sleeps in my bed and she's two now, it's not a good idea, once you start you can't get them out of your bed again

Tip: Get her a teddybear/cuddly thing that is the size of her. That's how we got ours to stay in her bed when we got one. The giant bunny was tumble-dried for a minute before bedtime so that it was warm and she hugged it and fell asleep on it.

Makes you want to strap a brick to their head to keep them from growing up!

How does he resist picking her up for a cuddle? She is so sweet - pure happiness.

Right? My daughter would have been pissed if her dad just kissed her and didn't pick her up for a hug.

Knowing that you may be sweaty and dusty from outside. I never touch a baby unless I m sure I am properly clean.

And this is how you get alergies.

I mean, coming back covered in mud, blood, oil, meat, wheat then go wash yourself. But if you came back from groccery...

Really? I thought allergies we in born hyper sensitivity.

If kid doesn't experiance any alergens then his body will not learn how to deal with them.

Can't find any papers now backing this becouse mobile.

That is normal but 'experiencing' allergens is different from willful contact right?

No that is just a different word for the same idea. You need contact one way or another. Over-sterilizing the baby's world will leave it much more likely to develop allergies.

Yes but I don't think freshening up after a days work or travel counts as over sterilizing. Is it?

Depends what you do for work. If you're just in an office, then yeah, avoiding holding a baby because you're afraid you're too dirty in that scenario is kinda on the paranoid side.

As willfull as letting child chose after 18 bday to get vacinated. :3

Yea. I'm a 21-year-old uni student, nowhere near being a mother, don't have babies in my life, am not particularly fond of babies, and am not really prone to crying.

But I shed just a couple tears? I'm baffled.

As a new dad (7ish weeks) I needed this post to get me through! Can't wait for some appreciation. Cheers for the feels.

They will never stop surprising you. 7 weeks is just milk&poop larva but at three-four months there's sitting activities, real smiles, giggles and soon after you're chaperoning at a teenage school dance and wondering "how did I get here?"

And soon after THAT you're watching them graduate from college, thinking, 'Holy cow! Where did the time go?!?'

We call them poonamis, with a touch of screaming. Still haven't got to the "it's all worth it stage" but even the fake smiles do help. With a daughter and growing up with all boys, I'm fearful of the teenage years where I have no relevant experience. Although thank fuck for the internet. How did pre Internet parents survive? It may even be the cause of why we're all so screwed up. Or visa versa.

Haha. It gets better. I have a 3 month old. She smiles, laughs and coos at you. Yours will be there before you know it!

Mate, I've got a 9 month old girl. Took her a little while, but she's finally starting to see the light. She loves me!

after bout 2 months, you'll get that needed "break". and by break I mean, some form of expression other than pooping and crying because he/she is hungry. Mine is just about 6 months and the giggles and smiles kill me and make me forget that seconds earlier you were screeching like a banshee for no reason.

You're just a few short weeks away from tickle-laughie game. Best. . .game. . .ever. . .

You're in the shit dude. This is the worst of the worst. You might already have it, the 1000 yard stare. Every dad has it. It's the baptism of fire that all present fathers go through. Sleepless nights, screaming, pooping, puking, and not a fucking smile or a thank you to be found. Sure the mom is doted on because she just shot out a watermelon but there's no sympathy for the guy. The dad who until 7 weeks ago was staying up till 1:00 playing Xbox, sleeping in until noon, and is able to go when and where he pleases. Now it's feedings, naps, baby bags, diapers, and crying. So much crying. This baby took everything from you and gave nothing back.

In a five weeks time you'll be a member of the club. The dads club. You'll come in some morning or home from work and this baby will look up at you and you'll get a smile. A toothless eyes wide open mouth smile that only you get. At that point everything changes. All that crap above doesn't matter just this matters.

It's still going to suck don't get me wrong but it will be worth it.

Now a days my son 8 sits next to me at night playing Mario Kart and talking about Roblox.

Hang in there dude. All the dads in the world have been there, know what you're going through, and are cheering for you.

I remember being 5 years old and being so excited every evening when my dad would get home from work. Sometimes he'd bring me a surprise like a fresh box of crayons or a teddy bear. I miss feeling like that.

My brother, sister, and I are all very close in age. When we were little, my dad would come home and start roaring like a bear, which was our cue to team up on him and try to take him down. He'd have a kid hanging from each arm and one clinging to a leg, and he'd start trying to "shake us off". Eventually we'd all just end up in a pile on the living room floor, giggling, with my mom watching us, chuckling and shaking her head.

I do "Jaws" with my 3 year old. I peek from around a corner and go "Dun dun". Then I hide, scootch closer and repeat a couple of times. Then I go dundundundun and close in for the tickles!

He doesn't like that :(
