This forum is for the general discussion of ImageMagick problems, HowTo's, and Success stories.

As a guide to the best way to get a response from this or other mailing lists see How To Ask Questions The Smart Way. This is recommended reading for all forums, not just ImageMagick Forums.

In summary the best idea is, Keep it Short and always include the ImageMagick version in your posting. Don't overload the request with too much specific detail or bugging reports.

Do include a simplified command or script that defines what you have tried or which has created the problem. Add a link to a web page explaining the problem in detail, or links to small image examples showing 1) what you started with 2) your result and 3) if possible, what you are trying to achieve. Always include the version of ImageMagick you are using (convert -version).

Note that this forum does not permit image uploading. But you can upload to some free service such as dropbox.com and put the URL in your post.

Also, always include in your post the ImageMagick version number and 'Q' level (use "convert -version"), and the platform (Windows, Linux, Mac) and API (PHP, Perl, DOS, VB, Shell, etc...) you are using to run ImageMagick. This can save a lot time in solving your problem.

The IM Website documentation, IM Examples (and Reference Index) for command line examples of just about everything IM is capable of doing.

Also look at 'bonzo's RubbleWeb for solutions to PHP problems and techniques. Fred Weinhaus has also published a large number of ImageMagick Scripts for a large variety of general image manipulations. As a bonus he includes a general summary of how his scripts work.

When you have a solution (or not) please return to the topic, to give it a final closure or summary of the solution, or your findings etc, so that other searchers know the topic is complete, rather than just being left unsolved. And finally don't delete or re-edit your original question, except maybe to clean it up, as it just confuses later readers.

Start a new thread if it is not directly pertinent to an old thread. Resurrecting an old thread for something that is only slightly related is not generally acceptable practice, in any forum. Also things may have changed (improved) since that old thread was written and as such is no longer relevant.

Bug reports or development requests should be sent to the other forums as appropriate.
